Just go directly to www.namezero.com instead of the page link above and sign up from there.

But you still do need a web host if you're going to link your free domain to an actual page. These web hosts below don't have popups, ads or banner requirements, but not all may be suitable to be used for commercial purposes. Then, there's always the cheap $9/mo web hosts if none of these suit your purposes.

Ok, from what i know i should only get one domain, but I have no idea of a good domain name, my company name is NetLine but the domain is already taken I tryed net-line without luck, netlinez work but I don't like it to much.

Any Ideas of a good domain name with that kind of words. I do ISP, voice over IP, webdesing run a cybercafe and need a free domain !!.

Has anyone really dug through the fine print? It looks as though they NameZero might actually own the domain you register, and merely give you use of it through their redirection. What happens if you want to move your domain away from their services?

Also, if you didn't already notice, they attach Email advertisements to any mail directed through their site (kinda lame if this is for a business).

I really don't see this as a great deal - to own a domain outright its only $35/yr, and you can have it redirected for free from www.mydomain.com, without the advertisements.

BTW you can register domains for $17 a year at www.domainmonger.com . And unlike namezero, you own it.

I did register one with namezero, but I can't get their dumb 'start page' to go away and forward to another URL. Anyone figured this out yet?

I signed up to this on Saturday. My domain was up today. To change your redirection, you have to go to your domain, and on the lower frame, you click on 'Control Panel'.
Log on and on the "Channels" area, click 'change'. The default is the NameZero page. Change the info to the one on the URL you want to forward to. Thats it! Yes, they own the domain unless you want to pay the $15 fee to transfer it into your name.

Thanks for the info. It's not that bad of a deal, just as long as you can get the name back if you want it. I've always wanted to own www.thetourguide.net (my friends nicknamed me the tour guide). Now I can have it for free.

*NameZero says they register your name for 1 year. At the end of the year they give you the option to have them renew it for free for another year, or you can have it yourself for free. It's only if you want to terminate BEFORE the year that they slap you with the $15 charge.

This seems like a pretty good deal to me. . . You can grab domain names for free, and if you ever feel like making a site out of it, you pay the 15 bucks to transfer. . . But at least no one can take the domain name away from you. . . Unless I'm missing something, I say its a pretty sweet riskless deal. . .

Its like parking a domain for free. Can't beat that deal... All you need is a free webhost (geocities,angelfire,etc.) and make the domain point to it. Of course you'll have a ton of ads all over the page... LOL

I register all my domains through gandi.net. You can't beat 12euros/year (under $11 as of this morning). Plus free email and url redirection. (one email & a single redirect for www.yourdomain.com)

I'd consider this service for domains I didn't necessarily want to use, but didn't want anyone else to, either. (mydomain.org, .net .etc)

Ok I got that link from Another BBS, and I just got back from my vacation. Either way you can still go throught that website to get your own domain name. Basically I offered up nearly 25 posts that morning, all from other BBS's to help out the GotApex community. That is not my link. That is not my domain. Anyone who wants to flame someone for putting up a link for some free **** can go get laid by a donkey. Seriously, I'm thinking of stopping posts on GotApex cause this is the 3rd FLAME I've recieved. If you really want me to stop posting I will, it's not like I'm trying to win some e-Popularity contest so any of you that have beef should just keep your mouth shut. That domain doesn't even give out referral stuff, offer any type of compensation, or anything and to top it off it's not even mine. Just go to http://www.namezero.com stop your bitchin and whining. I own my own Web Hosting business, and this hurts business for me, yet I still posted it.

Maybe I should start a listserv and get people pre-screened to get my deals. Since I have been here over the past month I have posted well over 50 deals. If you can't even be happy for that .... don't even start.
