    Agreed.

Sell the Accord and buy a sweet ride... like a BMW.

Why would you want a souped up Accord, anyways? To fit in?

  4. #4
Well I can't get a 3 series cuz the 30k is my mom's money and she said she'll only buy an accord. Koala, EXACTLY. I MUST FIT IN OR I'LL BE A LOSER!!! jk...nah i just think decked out accords look really nice. Can anyone link me to a good resource?

I'd wait 'til 2002 for Lexus IS300 5 speed manuel.

  7. #7
Nope. I haven't bought a car yet. Here's the deal. My mom will give me 24k for a car if I get an accord. She gives me only 18k if I get a car that isn't an accord. What should I do? I only have 6k of my own money.

Nope, Ironchef is not bitter. Definitely not.

Going back on topic: You could always try to convince your mom that used (2-3 years) is the way to go. That's typically when the slope of the depreciation curve drops off...

Alright. Let's assume then, that you're getting the Accord. Since it doesn't make any sense to toss $6k of your mom's money out the window, I suppose.

I think the Accord (depending if you get the EX, V6, etc) will probably cost around that much - $20-24k that is. So I guess that means you have $6k for mods.

So... what do YOU wanna do?
Make your car into a fast car?
    A cruisin' "straight-pimpin" mobile?
    A sound heaven?
    A mixture of the above?

6k can be a lot if planned correctly. Or it can be nothing if planned poorly... so tell us what you want and we'll start dispensing helpful advice for once.

But only if it says "VTec", or "Powered by Honda" (these only work if they cover half your windshield).

Tell your mom what everyone else with half a brain already knows, hondas suck.

With that kind of cash you could get a awesome used car that's only a few years old. I went to http://www.kbb.com and put in a few things, but since I don't know where you live it could be different... But anyways you could get a corvette thats a few years old, a 3000GT, a 300ZX, a older Supra... Sheesh, in any of those classy cars, your gonna make heads turn for the right reason, not because everyones making fun of your stupid Honda.

Supra..... grr..... always didn't like those...

Anyways, M_A_C, you really need to lay off a bit. It's not like the kid's gonna change his mom's mind. If he were the one buying the car, then you can flame him all you want but it's not really his decision, now is it? Add to the fact that he's Asian, and Asian moms NEVER change their minds about things like this.

And if he's relying on his mom to buy him his car (which he pretty much is), you think he's above 25? You think he's even above 22? Then you can be the one to fork over the cash for a two-door sports coupe when the auto insurance guy comes to collect.

Work with that you got or can get. What more could you ask for? What do you think YOUR mom or dad would say if she offered to buy you a car and you said, "But mom/dad! I want a COOLER car."

I'd smack you down, that's what I would do.

If my parents did offer to by me a car it would pretty much be my choice, and even if they did give me an ultimatum like that they would be way more open to suggestions and not so stubborn. Why the hell would they care what car I'm getting if I'm the one who's going to be driving it??

Haven't you seen the AllState ad on tv? The one about the old fart getting parents to buy their kids old station wagons instead of a fast car (Mustang?)?

How could you not like those? One of the coolest cars around, and with a few mods you can really kick a TON of ass in one, not to mention you'll kick a ton of ass in one stock too. That statment alone made me discredit you.

I was just being alittle hard on him to get my point across about how most people feel about Rice Boys. I guess I wouldn't know about "Asian moms" but i think thats a bit ignorant to generalize like that. I assume she can listen to reason. A brand new honda is just gonna be a horrible investment in my book, espically if your kid cuts his springs and puts tape all over it and ruins it in all those other ways they do.

Good point, insurance is a thing to think about. I guess since his mom is offering this deal tho, I assumed that a little insurance payment would prolly be no prob.

Now it's true. The Supra does kick some ass with mods and even in the stock trim. But I'm an RX-7 owner (hence the "FD" in "KoalaFD). And while the rivalry isn't at the same level as Mustang vs. Camaro, it exists and my prejuice and illogic take over when Supras come around. Now, if you ask me for reals, I'd say the same - the Supra is one bad ass car.

You're right. It's ignorant to generalize. But if his mom is like my mom or any of my friend's moms, she won't listen to reason. I'm with you. I wouldn't buy my kid a new Honda for exactly that reason. I'm sounding old here but these kids get these strange ideas into their heads as to what looks good. Must start somewhere with one really weird kid. Bottom line, though, is that his mom probably thinks that turbos are dangerous and therefore wants to get him a "family car".

Heheh..... what the M_A_C is cookin'. That was funny. Good one.

Because kids get these strange ideas that going 100mph+ on a public highway in traffic is cool.

And that rollin' in a BMW makes you a "boss baller", even though your mom bought it for you. (no offense to BMWs, I just don't think that teenagers should be drivin' them).

The obvious answer? Buy the kid an 86 Tercel. Make him appreciate and learn how to go slow before even letting him go fast. Hooked on slowness, worked for me! Ahh... but children these days are a little bit more... indulged... if you will.
