I have checked the legality and in many places, including Nevada, a girl who is 16+ can marry if one of her parents gives permission.

Now, if you are well over 20 and are a guy, would you do it?

Pros -- great sex, someone who will look up to you and dote on you, some whose body won't deteriorate for a while, someone you can mold into the ideal mate and person

Cons -- people might stare, you could be called a child molester/cradle robber, she might start liking guys her age, immaturity

The assumption is that she knows what she is getting into and is doing it voluntarily. Also she signs a pre-nupitual agreement so she gives up all rights to support and community property.

Ok, personally here's the first thing wrong with it. You shouldn't have to mold anyone, either she's ideal, or she's not. I'll concede that you can't control who you fall in love with, but you have to make sure she knows exactly what's she's getting into. I can't tell you how many women I've met that are 27+ and regret ever gettting married while they were young. And their definition of young is 18+. If it doesn't work out she might regret the guy for the rest of her life for things she missed out on.

Another thing while I'm ranting. Why get married? What's it going to prove? At the altar, when you say that magical phrase, "I do", are you suddenly going to fall more in love with that person?

    No.

The only "good" reason people have told me as to why they want to get married is because of the higher form of bond/trust. I hate to tell you, but if you need that, the relationship isn't exactly ideal, so why do you want to make it more binding and harder to get out of? And before all the pro-marriage people start, no I have not been married. But I have been engaged.

Come on people, argue with me. Prove me wrong. I'd love to be wrong about this.

Perhaps there is some subtext missing here...

Marriage is the only legal way for an adult to hang out with a minor.

Open relationships are legal so perhaps the marriage is more one of convenience so as to not bother the local authorities and perhaps to add some respectibility... no matter how minor.

I dunno, I had a really good friend that was 24 and dating a 16 year old. His huge problem was of course, the parents didn't approve.

May I ask how the parents are on this whole thing? Also, how mature is she? Honestly? Get your feelings away and answer with your head. This is actually kinda facinating to me on some wierd level, because I only date women that are older than me.

Well, yea she is 16 and wants to marry you, but there are so many 16 year olds f'd in the head. Trust me, i'm only 18. Your reasons for wanting to be with her are sex, sex, sex, theres nothing WRONG with that of course, but that's not a reason to marry a girl. If you want to bang her, bang her. If you think she's the type of girl that will run to the police and yell RAPE when you break up, then she's obviously not a girl you want to be marrying. Also, I don't think you're even sure about this one man, if you have to ask people that are online then I'd say don't do it.

dude, how old are you? i mean, this is what we call a blanket statement. according to you, if someone's parents are, say, 60 (father) and 49 (mother), then the father is sick. that is an 11 yr difference. now, maybe you mean that if the female is under 18 and there is a 10 yr difference, or in the above mentioned example, under 16, then someone is sick. however, we have to trust our laws. if the laws are not protective enough, then move to have them amended. and if you're saying that celine dion is not old enough to be able to decide for herself who to marry, then maybe you should cut the apron strings and let her make her own mistakes

    oh, and b4 i forget....UTMemo, we're all f'd in the head.

That's not what I said m0j0 were talking about a 16 year old girl here not a 60 and a 49 year old. I made no blanket statement; I made a specific point of someone taking advantage of an young and immature girl. Because of your misinterpretation, the rest of your point is invalid.

and if you're saying that celine dion is not old enough to be able to decide for herself who to marry, then maybe you should cut the apron strings and let her make her own mistakes
Again, not what I said. I was referring to the fact that her husband new her since she was a little girl, and married her when she grew up. You don't have to think it's sick but I do.

Not all women are gold digging bastards like you And as age differences go, I see a big difference if a Guy that is 40 is marrying a girl that is 30 and a guy that is 26 marrying a girl that is 16. A 16 year old girl isn't even an adult yet! Obviously this guy just wants to get some. And for 16 year old girls not putting out easily? HA!

Yeh, but most are. When they fall out of love, usually it's the money that makes all the difference whether she stays in the marriage or not.

The first sentence is a very big assumption. Not too many 16 year olds have enough experience in the real world to "know what they are getting into." You're setting her up to make a real big choice long before she's ready.

As to the last sentence, do you even give a shit about her at all? Sounds like you want to screw her and ditch her and come off smelling like a rose. I'm not too impressed, to be honest. You're willing to take a girl out of her youth, very likely stopping short or at least hindering her education. Without any experience in the real world, she will have no idea how to take care of herself, nor will she get the opportunity under your "protective" wing. Then, when you tire of her, your magic prenup will leave her high and dry. Does this sound equitable to you? Does this sound like love?
Common sense is what tells you the Earth is flat.

Marriage has a different meaning for everyone. There are some people's marriage that last forever and it the most beautiful thing. Some don't really think is necessary, either way its fine. I personally would get married because it means more to me to be with someone that is not emotionally my partner for life, but in all other ways as well.
As for your question of "why make it more binding and harder to get out of?" There in lies the problem you have with marriage, you're thinking of being able to get out of it. Marriage are for people who are willing to suck it up for the good and the bad, not for people wanting to get out of it when things get tough. All I gotta say, if people have doubt, don't do it. If you aren't willing to tough it out, don't do it. Stay single, stay free.

As for TLG, I don't know what you're thinking, but no girl in her teens is ready for marriage, and some in their early 20s can't even handle it. Their personality changes too much between then and the time they hit their mid 20s. As for molding them, dude, get a dog or something. Women aren't meant to be molded. I hope it isn't you that is thinking of doing something like this...cuz you don't really want to hear what more I got to say about it.

Dumbass....you should actually talk to the females I know that are around my age. Sure, there are some people in that age-group that fall under the "put out easy" category, but there are also the ones that have a brain and aren't just around for sex.

the ones you can actually hold a conversation with are the types of females I love being around...not because of their body...or how good they are in bed. but because of how much of a conversation i can hold with someone. I know a few 16 year old females that are smarter and more mature than my 20 year old friends.

I am 18, and I would rather be hanging around with an 18 and 17 year old female friends that I have than the male counter-parts that are 18 - 22. I mean, there are just some times that I would rather be talking about SOMETHING other than, "Holy sh-, look at the ass on that one. I would like to f- her."

I mean, c'mon, there is more to life than that.

    this might apply here...

my girlfriend of 2 years.. sounds funnier when I say my 2 yearold girlfriend doesn't it?

well.. she has a younger sister... 17 years old.. we are both 21... the younger sister hovers around us in amazement... always asking sex questions.. not only to her sister.. but to me as well...

as a man.. i have often fantacized of having both sisters at the same time (this is in south america were petty US rules do not apply)... and devirginzing both of them... cause they are both still virgins...

so.. going back to the subject at hand... this past january.. the 17 year old met a 27 year old family friend... this guy used to be a stripper.. and a druggie... and basically cleaned up his act ... now he is religious... and... blah blah blah...

so.. they hook up... like... relationship wise.. and he says he loves her... she says she loves him.. they are deeply passionate about eachother... sortof like a romeo and juliet love at first site story... well... it turns out.. that mid-february.. i got a call from the little sister.. proposing an ABSURD idea....

instead of asking me to have sex with her and her sister (my girlfriend) .. she actually had the nerve to ask me to go down to argentina June 16 with rings.. so we could do a DOUBLE ENGAGEMENT! .. i brushed it off as a joke...

but low and behold! the next day my girl tells me that her younger sister is getting engaged! i asked her 'you're shitting me right? they havne't even known eachother for more than 2 weeks!"
but aparantly love conquers all... *coughs*

so.. in the end... she moved from argentina to uruguay.. an dis now learning how to cook, clean, and do laundyr.. whiile working at a dental clinic and going to dental school..

FYI... you don't education past high school to go to dental school in third world countries.. and all you have to do is submit an application....

so.. there you have it.. does the guy want sex? I have no clue.. he works selling hardware supplies.. you know.. tools.. wood.. etc...

could they TRULY be in love? sure.. why not... is she a gold digger? nope.. her dad drives a beamer in a third world country.. and HE sells hardware.. is he a gold diggeR? possibly... but all the families fortunes are mine.. hehe .. it goes by seniority of relationship! HAHAHHA

is it wrong to marry a 16 year old? well i sure as hell wouldn't ... they are stupid AND immature.. AND inexperienced (not sexually.. just in general)... they are more proned to make stupid mistakes.. and infuriate me beyond belief..

i want a wife who could BE my wife... not someone who i would treat like a daughter.. having to teach her about a life she has still to experience.. and then pork her when i'm not....

get an ugly girl to marry you

words to live by. kinda brings a tear to my eye...

    Real life example....

John Derek who was much older (40's?) when he met Bo (16 or 17). They married (in Europe) when she was still a minor.

she stayed with him till the day he died and she still says they loved each other.

It was not like the Anna Nicole fraud, because it was over 20 years and so it was more than just the thought of getting money. Also, Bo was a model and actress when she met him so she was already making her own money and was pretty worldly.
