i got to work this morning and there was a lovely note on my desk from one of my bosses asking me to check the e-mail and plot and make prints the CADD drawing that was supposed to come in by 9 so he could take it to his 9:30 meeting. i figure no problem. i check the mail, and the file is huge, so it takes ~10 minutes to download (we still have dial up here at work). normally the drawings are just a sheet or two, so thats not a problem. turns out this drawing is 12 sheets. our plotter is a bit old, and averages about 4 minutes for a 2'x3' sheet. of course, theres so much information on these stupid drawing, its been taking more like 6 minutes for the sheet to come out. so i started plotting around 8:30. the drawing is so huge that everytime i shift views to plot, it takes about 1 minute to regenerate. basically, my boss is SOL. he got 7 of his 12 sheets by 9:20 when he rushed to the meeting. now this made him grumpy. he damn well better not take this out on me. there was someone else in the office this morning at 6. he could easily have plotted out the sheets and had no problem. (he could have checked the e-mail, since we only have one account down here for my department) but nope. there is no communication between the big wigs and us peons. i sit here watching the other sheets plot, laughing to myself as i realize that i still get to charge two hours to this stupid project for doing almost nothing. hooray.
