Thread: General Disk Read Error

    i put the dang thing in da computer and when i try to use something from it, it wont wrk. when i use it in dos is says general disk read error. does this mean my drive is dead?...its a 4.2gb wd i mean i can see the files...i can even go into the subdirecteries but i just cant use the dang thing. i wuz able to look up the warranty for the thing and its expired. i hope i'll be able to fix this dang thing. did i say dang enought?

    Don't sound too good. Maybe the controller's bad or you have a bad cable. Try swapping cables or maybe stick the drive in another pc if you can.

    Boot from a floppy and try to run scandisk on it. I've seen a similar problem when the primary FAT was corrupted on my HD.
