    Vehicle video recorder

Some posts in this thread got me thinking. If I had had a vehicle camera when I was rear ended (after stopping) and forced into the car in front of me, I might have been able to show the video to the cop who decided to ticket me because I had more damage to my front end than my rear end so I "must have run into the guy in front of me before the lady hit me from behind". (At least I got the ticket dismissed by showing up in court, and got 100% of my deductible back for telling the subrogation investigators what happened). Anyway, I recently saw a deal to pick up one of these (the DVR-530) for $45 shipped, so I figured I'd give it a try. Motion activated, records 3 or 5 minute segments (and will overwrite the oldest if the memory is filled - with a 8GB SDHD card it shows about 2.25 hours of recording time in 640x480 mode). Videos are date/time stamped which should help if I ever need to "prove" anything.

Oh sweet, Markel. Let us know what you think of it? I'd be interested in picking up something like that too.

Sounds like they offer it every so often. I'll have to set up an alert.

Interested to hear how you like it/it performs.

Funny thing. I just got back from vacation in Taiwan and this is widely available. They sell it at Costco at Taiwan. I noticed it in several cabs I took and in my wife's family car. They take video of cars in front of you. It seems to be a very common add on. Plus there doesn't seem to be a restriction on window tint (limo black or silver) and they have a gps/nav systems they audible tell you where each speed camera is. There are a lot of speed cameras in Taiwan by the way.

glad you won . some years back i have the same thing happen. but i was lucky the cop happen to be right across the light .and heard and seen the woman in the car behind the mid car. slam into him and push his car into the rear of my full size van with a trailer hitch and ball sticking out. it really did a number to the front of his car. his was a brand new car and wipe out his grill ,plastic bumper ,and radiator.
when i pulled forward after we all stop stuff went flying off his car. this was like 8 am and thanksgiving morning .the woman in the last car was drunk and driving a older pick up truck. she was about half pass out at the wheel . we ran back before the cop made it across the intersectionand grab her keys and turned off her truck .

Here's an interesting camera for those interested. It has TWO cameras built into it.

Note: I haven't read up on it, so it might suck.

Interesting. I wonder if you can record back and front.
