im planning on purchasing a car pretty and im just wondering what you guys prefer....i guess it all depends on the type of car to invest in...but what do you guys think is more important? a few extra hp[nothing hardcore eg: turbo/nos/supercharger]? or supreme sound[12's?]?

supreme sound for me. I'm more about the looks of the car than anything. I never race my baby

well epoxi, it all depends on what you're looking for. i have a jetta that i decided to put money into performance instead of sound. i have a stainless exhaust, a chip, cross drilled rotors and a neuspeed intake. now, the car isn't a rocket by any means, but it's a bit more responsive now. and i value quickness over teeth rattling bass. you could always take the best of both worlds route and do it piece by piece. get an intake, then buy a new head unit. get an exhaust, then get subs/amp.

my outlook on it all is, bass, ground effects, custom paint are nice...but aesthetic. i'm more impressed by someone rollin in a 1986 16v GTi that may not be pleasing on the eyes or ears, but can haul some serious ass. i mean, it's a car...not a billboard, not a home theater system...it's a car...so treat it right...boost the hp.

I think I gotta agree with aglio412, but having a sound system that's at least decent is fairly important to me, too. I put the whole massive triple-12, 4-amp system in my mom's car when I was in high school, and while it was amusing, it's much easier to listen to now that it has just a couple of Boston Acoustics 3-ways and an amp. So if you've got the money for either a BIG system or a bunch of minor performance upgrades, I'd say start by getting a nice base sound system and then work on upping the hp. If you want that massive thump, you can always add it on later if you've got something decent to start from.

Still, if you want to impress OTHER people, put the money in the horses. I don't give a crap if your car is loud, but I'll be impressed if it looks stock but can hang with my Porsche.

I live in california, land of rush hour. As fun as speed may be, its no good if your on a packed freeway. A nice sound system on the other hand...

yeah thanks everybody... the reason i brought this up is cuz i see some ppl rolling in an old corolla with a $5,000 + system which drains their battery every month,ha, which i think is a joke
but i guess since it's all preference, it's all good.

im not tryin to impress anybody with my sounds. i just want something that'll sound loud enough on the fwy with the windows rolled down...as for performance, intake, exhaust, n headers are the most i'll go.....haha how many ppl have heard that before?! anyways thanks

sound first... cause no matter what you do to your car (other then rims)... in five years it looks like crap compared to stock (in my opinion)... it just looks like your trying to make ur car look younger... but sound... you can have a POS and have a dope system... and people will still like ur car
