I had a similar problem with my Verizon DSL. I had a plate that screwed to the wall that gave the PHONE and DSL jacks. I was given an adapter to use between the telephone and the jack, supposedly to protect the telephone from surges and such. After I removed that adapter my DSL probs went away.

You might have a bad filter on one of the other phones. The guy that installed my ADSL checked the connection by telnetting to the modem and found that it was slow so he changed the filter on one of the other telephones and it works fine now.

I guess taking the filter off will work to as in the case of overclocked but I think there are negatives to that although i am not sure what. (surge or slower connection or something...)

those self-install kits and phone line filters suck. Luckly i got my DSL when it was still a new thing so they sent a guy out and he installed the filter where the phone line enters the house therefore all the phones are filtered and separated from the dsl connection. Many times with the self install kits when the phone rings your connection slows down or is dropped.
