Thread: Random CD-R problems

  1. #1
    Hey,
I bought a Plexwriter 12/10/32A a while ago and I've just tried setting it up on my machine.
    setting's i have :-

    plexwriter - secondary master - mode 4
    old memorex cdrom(402E) - secondary slave - udma2

now my win2k box (433 celeron) starts up fine ... i get into windows ...
but then at some random time interval I get some sort of memory reference error ... im not sure what the error is coz it goes by way too quickly.
anyway, my system restarts ... and repeats the same procedure.

If i unplug the memorex cd and start the computer ... everythings ok ...

any ideas ? I'm not sure what I should do ?
    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    hmm ... well ... i havent got a reply ... so i tried switching them around ..
i made the memorex cd master and the plextor slave.
it now seems to be working ok ...
i have no idea what that was about ?
something with a dma configuration ?

anyway, i guess if this works things are cool ...
anyone know of a reason not to keep the plexwriter os slave ?

You probably don't want your burner drive set as slave since it will have less priority on data speed. Activate DMA for both drives. If you can I'd put the cd drive under primary slave and leave the plextor secondary master on its own then. Not really sure what that error could be you were getting.

    Angry current workin config

    thanks for the tips ...
i currently have 2 hd's set up on primary ..
and the plexwriter set up as secondary master
disconnected the cd drive coz i just couldnt seem to get it to work ...
in just the flashing glimpse of the error ....
it seems to gave the word IRQL in it ...

    possible irq conflict ?
    i cant change irq's anyway with win2k ...
