Just got the latest issue of the Industry Standard. This issue celebrates 21 of the most influential people of the Net economy. Until stubidzbu identified Hilary Rosen a few threads earlier, I never heard of her. She is the head of the Recording Industry Association of America.
In the article, they note that she helped produce last year's Equality Rock concerts for gay rights, starring Melissa Ethridge, Garth Brooks and George Michael. Furthermore, the article claims that she and Elizabeth Birch, who is the executive director for the gay advocacy Human Rights campaign live together raising two year old twins.
These are the same people who are telling you that downloading music is immoral and formed a task force to keep explicit songs from being marketed to kids.
Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth!!

I'm not sure I'm reading this right--are you saying she shouldn't be fighting Napster because she's gay?

No, no. Don't you see? He's saying that being gay is immoral. I don't understand the problem though, we've seen it stated in other threads that it's perfectly OK to be immoral while being a good Christian. In fact, that's the whole beauty of Christianity!

Maybe we can stone them and have 'em convert back to being god-fearin' heterosexuals.

    Oy..

I never could figure how a straight twenty year-old- something-heterosexual could even imagine that the gay lifestyle is somehow acceptable, but I guess with everything abnormal becoming politically correct, it shouldn't surprise me.
To make this situation a little more vivid:
Hilary's daughter gets a call late in the night from one of her friends. The friend says that her older brother is downloading music from NAPSTER. Knowing that her mother would just love to hear of this horrible activity, she rushes upstairs, opens the door to the bedroom and is startled to see her mommy doing bizarre things with her other mommy.Hilary tells her to leave the bedroom, but she will be with her in a minute. Hilary regains her composure, talks to her daughter, telling her what an evil person her friend's brother is - a low-life pirate who has no regards for the profits of the record companies... er... the recording artists. The daughter tries to understand, but really has a hard time trying to figure it out. After all, he only clicked his mouse and just wants to listen to some music on his computer.
Meanwhile, Hilary says " Go back to your room and pretend you didn't see anything."
I am not a rocket scientist but I see the hypocrisy.

I never could understand how a person granted the gift of a thinking brain could rely so blindly on a book written by misogynists, rewritten by homophobes and transcribed by illiterates. But I guess with people having no will of their own, desiring the unearned, fearing change and the unknown and having zero faith in their own capacity as a thinking, acting human being, it shouldn't surprise me.

But on to your invalid anecdote.

Hmm, he wants to listen to licensed intellectual property without paying the price for it? I can see why you think this is ok!

Did the friend ever write something, or do anything which requires thought and effort and skill? He did? Well, then it's his decision to do with it as he pleases. Not yours, not mine, not Napster's. I love a good mp3 as much as the next person, but make no mistake about it, it's stealing. If the artist is caught up in a record contract that won't let him release his music freely over Napster, then so be it. Them's the nature of the business and the pitfalls of working with a big record company.

Meanwhile, Hilary says " Go back to your room and pretend you didn't see anything."
Hilary then has to explain to her daughter that being gay is something to be ashamed of, because God said so. She also has to explain to her that the KKK is a good organization because they fight for God, too. She has to tell her that no matter what her value or worth as a human, no matter what achievements she may make, if she ends up gay, like her poor mother who should've chosen not to be, has, then she's going straight to hayellll, may gawd have mercy on her.

    Christ...

I can think of no more appropriate a quotation than from Billy Madison: "...And we are all dumber for having heard that."

Don't you have a crusade to go on or something?

Well, your logic would suppose that because most of the population is hetrosexual, then the minority is doing something wrong.

Well, most of the world is atheist. Therefore, all religous belief is immoral.

Most of the world are women. Therefore, possession of a penis is unconscionable.

Most of the world are of average intelligence. You, therefore, are doing something wholly disgusting.

    Let's not forget...

...the music industry is responsible for providing food, water, and health care, so why shouldn't they be entitled to billions of our $$$?

this isnt about political correctnes... this is about homophobia and biggotry. you are saying that the head of the riaa has no right to make any stance because she is gay.
what does that have to do with political correctness? this has to do with you being a biggot and anextremely ignorant individual. one of the key parts of our constitution guarantees the right to personal liberty and you are saying that this woman doesnt have that because she prefers to be with women instead of men. Man if this country didnt guarantee freedom of speech I would bitch slap you and tell you to shut your pie hole. But you as an american have a right to say and do anything as long as it doesnt impede upon anyone elses right to say and do anything. The head of the riaas personal sex life doesnt impede upon anybodys ability to do anything and it deffinately doesnt invalidate her right to judge legal and illegal activities.

Why do people think that homosexuality is a choice? You're made one way or the other (or even both), but it's not as if there's a choice in the matter. Maybe this is genetic. If you had a gay friend, would his "gayness" rub off on you, causing you to want men? I think not. You know, I was a music major in college and I couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a homosexual. They were in my classes. In my ensembles. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THEY SPOKE TO ME SOMETIMES AND I SPOKE BACK!!! And you know what, I'm still straight and they're still gay. No one ever approached me and said "Come on and give it a try".

Time for a little Bible lesson:
Leviticus 18:22 is translated as (King James Bible) "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." The LITERAL translation of this is "And you will not put to sleep the male the woman's naps abomination he is". I dunno about you, but it sounds like no afternoon naps for the guys here.
    Did you also know...
Only virgins may marry (Lev. 21:14)? http://www.fourmilab.to/etexts/www/B...cus.html#21:14
You will be destroyed for mowing your lawn on Sunday? (Lev. 23:30)? http://www.fourmilab.to/etexts/www/B...cus.html#23:30
Childbirth is unclean? (Lev. 12:1-8)? http://www.fourmilab.to/etexts/www/B...icus.html#12:1
Menstruation is unclean -- may not touch a woman during that time, also anything she sits on needs to be washed good(Lev. 15:19-33)? http://www.fourmilab.to/etexts/www/B...cus.html#15:19

I find it amazing that people read and quote the parts of the Bible they like, and simply ignore the rest. I find it amazing I'm still thinking about arguing with you. Anyone looking for some good Christian reading should hop on over to Jack Chick's site www.chick.com and read some cartoons. Then you'll see what intolerance is all about.

    Topane...

I believe you are mistaken. You are gay. Swinging dead cats and similarly light-loafered activities are quintissentially gay. You have been converted, and you didn't even know it!

Chalk up another insidious victory for the poofs!

Except that what is legal and "illegal" with regards to all the BS special interest legislation that got passed has very little to do with what is right or wrong

i tell you what....i like gay ppl. they have good taste in decorating...lol

anyhow...ya. um...i just wanted to say, really, that ppl who are gay have to be made that way. i was born straight, and the thought of kissing a guy just makes me lose my lunch . so i figure that if someone is doing that, it must be what is natural for them. either that or they have stomach of steal and are trying really hard to prove a point that is not worth proving.

if ppl are gay, let them be gay. in return, they will let you be straight.

Holy crap. I haven't seen those damn things since I left high school. That is some of the most depressing and frightening dogma I've ever seen.
