    jack stands or ramps?

I've been changing the oil in my cars, and always, the scariest part is getting the car up high enough on my jack stands. I keep on going back and forth from my jack to the stands to only get it high enough so my stands fit and then get it down onto the stands.

I've been thinking about switching over to ramps, where I'd just drive my car onto the ramp, and bam, it's already high enough for me to get underneath to change the oil.

Anyone have any experience with either, and would recommend one or the other? Any reason why I shouldn't switch to ramps? It seems like it wouldn' only NOT work on brake/tire jobs. otherwise, ramps seem safer than jack stands.

    thoughts?

I hear you on that. I have jackstands and ramps and I mostly use my ramps because they feel safer to me. Although you have to get over the fear of driving onto them.

But, why stop there. I recommend:

I put a piece of cord wood under the axle.

I picked up a pair of ramps at a garage sale, only to find out that the angle was too step for my car's clearance.

Check your local Craigslist. I got a very nice metal set of ramps on there for $20.

I HAVE been seriously looking at those lifts though. I hadn't came across the directlift site before and there were actually a few lifts on the local CL too.
