    NCAA: PSU Punishment

Personally, I don't think the punishment was severe enough on the surface. The reaction from pro-PSU people is bewildering to me. Anyone disagree and why?

From what i know of the situation, Id agree that it didnt go far enough. I dont think they should have slashed the football scholarships, I think they should be forced to honor all scholarships and allow those students to take the scholarships elsewhere.

I hope the 60mil fine is earmarked for the victims, but im not sure on that.

The four-year ban from postseason play, should have been a blanket 4 year ban on all football programs there.

Now the question I have about this is with all the media surrounding this, and PSU being found liable, why is the chuch not liable for their crimes?

They almost did that: current scholarship holders can stop playing football and continue to receive their scholarships.

Good point. Where's this level of vitriol from the general public when it's a priest committing these acts? That sure as hell happens often enough.

Oh and anyone on the board who was involved in the coverup should be anally violated, as well as paternos corpse.

I agree with you and tack on the 4 year ban on football. It'll be devastating to the whole university and the surrounding business for a long time but for more than a decade they gained financially from something that should have been stopped the first time and most certainly the second time. The fan reaction pretty much spells it out that football comes first and foremost. What ever happened to getting a quality education? I don't remember Harvard or MIT riding the coattails of their sport teams to draw in students.

    Pretty stiff penalties.

The money's being earmarked for sex abuse programs. The families will still get theirs.

Well State Farm and possibly GM are pulling their sponsorship and ads. If the school was good on education alone then they should be able to keep school enrollment and graduation rate at the same level while retaining and attracting quality staff and teachers.

Penn State has been a pretty good school for a long time academically, but I don't know if they'll be breaking any enrollment records in the next year or so. Some people will be turned away, but maybe even more so than that, enrollment will drop due to the football program as strange as that may seem. The years after a program wins the National Championship (or a major bowl, etc) at Oklahoma University are always record years for enrollment, and I'm willing to bet it's the same at other schools.

It doesn't help that Penn State seems like it should be called "State Penn" for a few years.

I think the penalties should have been more harsh, $60 million isn't even their gross income from football for one season.

The fact that they KNEW about it, and did nothing is even more disgraceful, and Paterno is nearly as disgusting as Sandusky. While so far there's no evidence he was ever involved, the fact that he helped cover up for the scumbag is just about as bad. And those childrens blood (gross) is on his dead hands.

As for the church comment, I believe the Catholic Church should be liable, and in the sum of $100 million per incident, for any incident they knew about and didn't report to the police immediately, and remove the sick Priest from his position.
