    Home Kitchen Renovation Question

I got an estimate from Home Depot for cabinet refacing and countertop replacement. $1400 for the countertop replacement with a new faucet and sink. $8000 to replace the doors and put matching veneers on the exposed sides. My kitchen linear foot length is 20 linear feet. Does this sound like a lot of money? My kitchen is small and for almost 10K I think I can get brand new cabinets instead of just refacing. Anyone else go through this?

Sounds expensive to me for just a refacing. Get a few more bids.

I paid 15k for all of my kitchen/laundry/bathroom cabinets/vanities/tops. My kitchen is huge and they were custom built. I have a solid surface island top that's rounded on one end for seating (3k of the cost), cultured marble for the bathrooms, and laminate for everything else.

I wish I had all my pics from the house construction back up so you could see what I'm talking about.

I doubt that I would ever go through Home Depot for something such as this, because all they are doing is subcontracting the work and taking a cut of the profits, which I suspect would mean a higher total price for the job because the contractor needs to make his profit as well.

I agree that's a lot for what you're getting. I just finished installing some very beautiful new cabinets last week. Total cost was about $10k for the cabinets, for a kitchen about 23 linear feet of countertop, and also included 3 large, 96"-tall utility cabinets. Check out allwoodfast.com, but I would only buy their stuff through Costco.

How many cabinets are we talking? Granted there isnt much cabinet space in the apts we've redone but I think we spent 10k for ripping everything out, new cabinets, floors, tiling the backsplash from the floor up.

Also, look into Ikea cabinets, my sister got them a year or so ago and loves them.
Am I alone here? Is that it?
Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.

    Thank you, sir.

I think what got me was an all cash option was due before even the work was done. From the tv shows I've seen half is give at the middle of the job and big chunk when it's finished. Then they had a survey with Home Depot that they sit with you when you evaluate them. Weird.

call around and stop in at cabinet shops. there all kinds of prices and grade of new cabinets .also the area were you live can affect costs. im not fond of cabinets sold by the big box stores. and beware of hard sells by some shops . compair hardware and constuction of the cabinets being offer. look at the drawers and check out materals used. the best will have finger joint constuction. also the type of wood used in constuction of the cabinets will affect price .
cherry being one of highest priced woods.but you can also get oak cabinets with cherry stain and they will look about the same as real cherry wood cabinets (i have real cherry cabinets in are home) . also cabinet door styles can affect prices.
also handles and knobs can really skyrocket a kitchen or bathroom cabinets cost.
keep in mind the kitchen is the most costly room in a home to remodel and bathrooms 2nd .
here a link to a company that i use a lot for clients cabinets http://westerncabinets.com/ .see if you can contact them find a installer /dist in your area .they make good stuff at a fair price. sorry i can't help you fine a good contractor in your area. I charge $40 per cabinet to hang them plus fees for drywall ,and plumbing ,tile . also dont be taken in by stores that say it cost you so much to do a 10 ft of cabinets because every kitchen is diffrent . and there other hidden fees they come up with and you will never see them in most cases till they tear out the old kitchen .then what are you going to do your trapped.
