    Hurricane Sandy

Anyone scared of Sandy? Anyone else in the path? Looks like I'm kinda on the edge of it here on the NH coast. Yesterday the power company robocalled a warning that outages may occur, which they've been doing across the region over the weekend.

    Some coverage at NPR.

Personally, I'm ready to be disappointed. Seems like anytime something's hyped up this much it turns into a flop. From the way they talk of it, you'd think a volcano was roaring up the East Coast.

When we were driving home from Missouri yesterday, we passed a long line of electric company utility trucks from Arkansas heading northeast.....

Wow, this is some pretty intense language: http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/201...ngerous-storm/

Basically, "IF YOU'RE IN SANDY'S WAY, GTFO!!!!"

    1. IF YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO EVACUATE A COASTAL LOCATION BY STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS, PLEASE DO SO.

    2. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT TO EVACUATE, AND YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO RODE OUT THE ’62 STORM ON THE BARRIER ISLANDS, ASK THEM IF THEY COULD DO IT AGAIN.

    3. IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE RESCUE/RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR RECOVER YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.

    4. SANDY IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM. THERE WILL BE MAJOR PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURIES ARE PROBABLY UNAVOIDABLE, BUT THE GOAL IS ZERO FATALITIES.

    5. IF YOU THINK THE STORM IS OVER-HYPED AND EXAGGERATED, PLEASE ERR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION. WE WISH EVERYONE IN HARMS WAY ALL THE BEST. STAY SAFE!

Hey, if there's any water damage or leaking from your plumbing, blame it on the hurricane!!

    Stay safe.

Work closed early today for non-essential personnel. Funny how everyone's so eager to call themselves "non-essential" in such circumstances (myself not excluded). A lot of people with kids weren't there in the first place due to closed schools and daycares.

Didn't have power here when I got home but it came on maybe 20min later. Seems like it could've been out for a while. Hopefully it holds out!

Its overhyped for anyone in NYC not in a flood zone area. Where I work by the water I expect the parking lot to be under 5ft of water (had 2-3ft with irene)

I know on 1 side it's inappropriate, but Sandy has a twitter account. There were a couple hilarious yet raunchy Jersey Shore jokes so I won't repeat them, but I got a good laugh

Wow, this is great. Line crews from Alabama drove all the way to NJ to help with the hurricane recovery. NJ sends them home because they're not unionized. LINK Thanks a lot guys!

Guess I have to eat my words on this one. My immediate area avoided most effects, but its been pretty bad. Subways are still not fully running, gas lines 3-5 blocks long at the gas stations who are open, still some areas without power. A lot of businesses are still closed, more damage in brooklyn than i would have expected. I personally know 4 people with houses ranging from major damage to houses that physically disappeared or now need to be ripped down.

But ill still stand my ground on the original meaning to my words which was based on people going crazy to stock up on food. Especially in non flood prone areas like mine.

Seriously. The union guys are prob making like $80/hr overtime and without help they'll be doing 60-80hrs/week for, say, 3 weeks. Having those non-union slobs help out might cut that down to 2 weeks. We can't have that, oh no no. They'd rather make people sit in the dark that much longer than let someone else take a cut of the union wages they're ENTITLED to.

letting non-union in once might also set precedent to allow them in in the future. Its not always the unions fault, none of us here will know all the ins and outs of the laws/regulations.

No electric since 8pm 10/28/12. They say by Wednesday we should be back on. The electric company has 18,500 customers in Sayreville, NJ (my town) as of yesterday 11,500 are in the dark. Just information not complaining because I'm lucky enough to get to stay at my ex-wife's house who has electricity and hot food. YAY!! Just what I wanted....ha ha ha ha....

Yeah, the whole non-union thing was not true. JCP&L spokesman came on the radio and said it was false.
