What is the difference, if any, between a router like the SMC Barricade and DSL/Cablemodem Gateway? Is one harder to set up or whats the deal? Thanks.

There is no difference between an ``IP gateway'' and an ``IP router''.

However, the term ``gateway'' refers to any system that connects heterogeneous systems.

Router - IP router provides connection to many different types of physical networks, e.g. Ethernet, Token Ring, point to point link, FDDI, ATM

Gateway - Connects 2 different protocal suite (e.g. TCP/IP and SNA) for 1 particular application(e.g. email or file transfer.)
