They figure that maybe if they go after the most popular Republican, then they won't even have to offer any opposition to the Democrats in 3 years.

(McCain is being recalled in Arizona because he is not extreme enough for the people of Arizona)

For those of you that don't know, McCain is really, really hated by a lot of mainstream Republicans (and what goes for mainstream Republicanism these days makes Reconstruction-era Republicans look like a hippie love-in). I don't know when his term is up, but prepare to see the sparks fly. I monitor Rush the Hut's radio program and he rags on McCain every day (his impression of McCain is actually pretty funny). Luckily for Senator McCain, he knows which way the wind is blowing. States with a lot of recent California seepage are trending back to the Democratic side and will continue to do so (look at Colorado, Nevada, and soon Arizona).

    Thumbs down

McCain has moved steadily leftward over the past few years.

Talking Ya gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em

Like I said, SBP, John is a good politician. He knows which way the wind is blowing. Arizona is drifting leftward, but even more inportantly, the state tends to prize a 'maverick' above all else (just read about some of their former governors). Say what you will about him (I'm not much of a fan either, for obviously different reasons), but he's definitely has some of the qualities. Now, if he could just get right of that speech impediment...
