I just got a bottle of wine from a friend. He got it as a graduation present but he gave it to me because he doesn't drink. The guy who gave the wine to my friend supposedly said it was the shit. I can't find any information about it online, so I was hoping that if there are any wine enthusiasts here, you could help me out.

Here is a pic of the label:

    Also the year is 1999.

    Thanks!

Mayhaps my memory doesn't serve me well, but I think I've seen this brand at Costco, for well under $10.

Don't know anything about the taste though.

    Edit: Here's 1997 ...

    Pretty Tasty Beaujolais

This wine is not exactly "the shit", but it is nice and tasty for the price. You can find it for around $6-$8 (yeah they sell it at Costco). I suggest chilling it just a little bit to mellow it out.

    Cheers!

The cost of a wine is not always directly related to it's quality. Some great wines can be plentiful and therefore inexpensive. In a few years the same bottle of wine might be worth 10 times as much, it might be worth nothing. It depends how well it ages and keeps.
It is also a matter of personal preference. His friend might have loved the wine. It was a gift and a gift should be valued for the care that went into selecting it more than it's quantitive value. His friend probably feels he is introducing him to a great wine. It might be his last bottle and he can't get more easily.

Then again he might just be a cheap ass.
