I ran into an ex-boyfriend at our college graduation a few weeks ago. I didn't have any time to talk to him, we just said "hi" and hugged, because I was actually in route to receive my diploma. So, a few days ago I decided to drop him an email to see if he wanted to go to lunch. He said, "Sure, but it'll have to be later in the summer, cause I'm having open-heart surgery on Tuesday." GAH! He was born with some heart problems. This will be his second surgery, the first being when he was 2 years old.

I'm assuming he'll be in the hospital for a little while, and I was thinking about getting him something to pass the time a little quicker. Does anyone have any suggestions? I thought about sending flowers and/or balloons, but I think it'd make more sense to take him something to pass the time.

I'm thinking $50 is about the max I want to go on this. Also, something that I could get delivered would be a plus. The hostpital he'll be at is 100 miles away. I don't think he'll be up to visitors, so if I take him something I would just be dropping it off. However, he's worth a 200 mile round-trip drive, so I'm not ruling out the drive to deliver something myself.

    Any suggestions?

Notice I said he is an ex-boyfriend. I'm not looking to get back together with him - he broke my heart once.

Twilight what is your ex into? Does he like sports, computers, beer or anything like that in particular? That would give us a better idea.

None of those things. He doesn't have any real hobbies that I can think of! He spends most of his time doing things related to his job; tv news producing. We only dated for a short time, and we spent that time traveling (a lot of traveling), going to movies, and having deep conversations. Nothing really that qualifies as a hobby.

Am I alone here? Is that it?
Am I the only one who sees.

Maybe we can learn to be just like him.

Get him a whole bunch of free samples from the Got Deals? forum.
Shall we buy a new guitar?
Shall we drive a more powerful car?

Hmm... a scrapbook...I think that might be a little too personal. Sounds like Twilight wants to keep the "friends now" concept clear. I agree with Cruel and Clueless. Open heart surgery is a pretty major operation and he'll probably be spending a lot of time recovering in the hospital. Seems like the best thing to get him would be stuff to help him pass time. Magazines, movies, books, and don't forget, MUSIC!! Get him good CDs and lend him your CD player.

Or be cruel by giving a letter saying, "That's what you get for breaking MY heart!!"

Books, books and more books. Just ask him what he likes to read. Nothing to serious though, he will probably be on pain meds and not able to concentrate well.

How about pictures of different places, a few movies, and pay a nurse $20 to have a deep conversation with him?

Twilight, since he has no real solid hobbies that you know about, I'll give you a few suggestions that any guy might like. I think that since he just had a serious operation, it would be good to have some humorous gifts to bring his mood up a bit. With that said:

    The Hooter Shooter

    Little Whizzer Liquor Dispenser

    http://www.spencergifts.com/product....Name=Drinkware

Talking Pee-Wee Herman Doll(watch out if he has any kids)

    http://www.spencergifts.com/product....me=Interactive

After two heart operations, surely he must need his:

    Superman™ Hat

    http://www.spencergifts.com/product....me=Wigs%2FHats

Does he drive a truck? How about some:

    Truck Nuts

    What about some

    Fish Head Can Coolers

    http://www.wonderfullywacky.com/fishheadcancoolers.htm

    or an

    Amish Punching Puppet

    http://www.wonderfullywacky.com/amishpuppet.htm

or even a real life, genuine

    Farting Phone

I hope these help a bit. If I see any more cool stuff, I'll let you know

Now that would show you really "really" cared. It would also brighten his day.
