    Which engine does it have?

The standard upgrades to boost hp are:

    1) chip (especially with a turboed engine)
    2) exhaust
    3) intake

There's a bunch of other stuff you can do as well, but those are the cheapest and easiest. I'm sure there are a ton of forums and sites for Passat mods, since I know there are for Jettas. Doesn't somebody else on this board have a Passat that they've modded up?
    Porsche. There is no substitute.

If it's a Turbo than the easiest way is to get a boost controller.

Bigger turbo so you can run Higher boost, but then you need to upgrade the fuel system.

If you got the 1.8T a chip, cool air intake, and cat-back exhaust will take you to 240hp. Add a new turbo to that and you'll have 300hp. If you got the V6, the only choice for big power power gains is a supercharger. I'm not sure of specific dealers for those, so check the ads in European Car magazine.

Yes that was me with the modded Passat. I have a 99 and 00 Passat. Both modded. Here is mine: http://www.vidavision.com/hobbies/shaggymatt/ My car is at about 240hp, tomorrow I have the FMIC installed.

A new turbo will take you to 300hp with the proper kit. You'll need a larger turbo to get to that 240hp mark.

AutoThority is supposed to make an ECU modification that boosts HP by 46 and Torque by 56. It's only $449 if you want to send them your ECU and have them modify it. It's $1149 if you want a complete new one.

I don't keep up with VW, so I don't know owner's opinions about it though. Seems like an incredible deal, but only an owner can tell you if it really is.

APR does the same sort of thing for $499:

Car's are great, service is terrible. This seems to be the case across the country. Audi's service is a bit better, and don't get me wrong there are some good dealers out there, but most of them are terrible.

There is a boost controller for these cars called the Split second boost controller, relatively new product to the market. Boost controllers do not get as much in the power gain department as the chips do. Chips make use of increased timing as well, in addition to the higher boost levels.

My chip tuner of choice is GIAC, http://www.giacusa.com he consistently comes out as the fastest chip out there. ~50hp and 80 ft./lbs gained (exact gains depend on model year). There's probably a half dozen other chip tuners out there.
