A business up in Seattle sent me an email about working for them up in the Seattle area. I was wondering, what is it like these days up there? Is the weather nice? Is it a cool town to party in for young people or is it more for old codgers(no offense old people like LPM).

    Thanks!

i worked up there last summer and it was pretty cool... unpredictable weather (but i'm spoiled b/c of the year-round good weather in cali). there are many out-doorsy type things to do and you'll soon get hooked w/that stuff. i always went to vancouver since its only 2-2.5 hours away. there are some pretty young ppl there too.. not just for old timers

Yeah, I'm up in Seattle. It's cool up here. Rains every once in a while, but not every day like ppl say. It's rained once in the last 3 wks. There's lots to do up here too. Lots of clubs and stuff like that.

The Downtown Seattle/Pioneer Square area has lots going on for partying.

We really have only two seasons up here - Summer and Clouds. We only get about 3 days of snow in the winter (which shuts the city down cuz everyone freaks) and it really doesn't rain as much as we let people think. Oh, and did I mention the clouds?

Traffic is atrocious and getting worse, so if you move up here make an extra effort to find living space close to your job. Even only commuting to close areas, like Lynnwood and Renton, can be exercises in frustration - you'll get to memorize a lot of license plates cuz you'll be moving so slow.

A favorite driving tactic up here is this: There is a vehicle about two car lengths ahead of you, one lane to your left or right. Someone in the lane next to you rapidly comes up behind and cuts you off, of course leaving very little space between his car, the car on front of him, and your car. Unless you stare at your side mirrors, there is of course no warning cuz the car that's about to cut you off is moving so fast. This happens to me every day, and I'm sure one day I'll get creamed. This has nothing to do with how fast traffic is going - there's just a lot of impatient drivers here. Turn signals are passe up here - actually seeing someone use theirs is a rarity.

The cost of living is high, and getting higher rapidly.

Those are some bad points, here are some good ones:

LOTS of nature in the area if you like the outdoors. Quality ski areas are close by for winter fun (get some REALLY GOOD snow tires, you'll thank me later). Lots of hiking areas within 30 minutes in most directions. We have ample boating opportunites, what with the Sound, Lake Washington, and some smaller lakes, like Lake Tapps a short drive to the south.

A cool Saturday - catch a morning ferry from Edmonds out to Kingston, have breakfast, then meander down toward Bremerton. Do some exploring. Catch the ferry from Bremerton to downtown Seattle and do lunch in Pikes Market. If you wait until Sunday instead, after lunch head to Fremont and catch the Fremont Sunday Market - basically a flea market, but a notch or two up the scale from normal.

If you can afford to live here and can take the 9 months of cloudy skies (seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a big problem here), love the outdoors and a night life - you'll LOVE it in Seattle. Just have a job before you get here - the local job market is in the toilet right now.

    Hope this helps.

Sigh... I wish I lived in San Diego...
Sunny, not to hot. Not to cold at night. Beautiful women. Beaches. Good food. Comic-Con. Actually has some culture.

Oh, wait! I do live in San Diego!!! Whoo Hoo!!!
