Is this a mail-in rebate or on-line rebate?

  5. #5
It's a mail-in rebate. You print out the rebate form online though.

I went to http://www.viewsonic.com and checked the authorized retailers for the rebate and it stated the following retailers:

    Best Buy
    COMPUSA
    Fry's
    MicroCenter
    Office Depot

I don't think that Dell is one of the acceptable dealers for the rebate

Hold up guys, I just called Viewsonic customer service (1-877-416-4692) and the lady told me that Dell is NOT an authorized reseller and thus the rebate would not apply. However, it is still a very solid deal, even without the rebate.

    Thumbs down bummer

I was all set to jump on this deal, but the $30 off coupon expired yesterday and the rebate is questionable. The fine print at the bottom of the rebate says "Offer valid on purchase...at ViewSonic authorized retailers and resellers only." Here is a link to their autherized retailers.

    http://tom.viewsonic.com/rebates/retailers.cfm

You might be able to get them to honor the rebate but I'm not going to risk it. Too bad, it was going to be my wife's birthday present.

I already received it. It came yesterday. The coupon did work, but I wish that I had known that the rebate didn't apply until it was too late. Still, from what I have read, this is one of the better quality LCD monitors.
Also, from what I have been reading, LCD monitors will start rising in price real soon. These prices may be as good as it gets for a long time for good quality monitors.

    Thumbs down

Coupon code would not work with 20% discount ....

ive looked around, and $343.56 for a Viewsonic LCD is still way cheap. most places sell them ~450 and up. if u wanna use the $100 rebate, u have to buy from either BestBuy, compusa, fry's, MicroCenter, or Officedepot where it costs ~550 or so.

I got my monitor yesterday too, kind of a mixed blessing.

Damn I ordered one only because of the rebate. I called Viewsonic and they said to eff off, and that the rebate was not valid. I hope I can still cancel my order!

    Question

ok, i just saw the update on the Deals page, and i'm confused. so u can *still* use the rebate by calling them up and haggling w/ the supervisor? i called twice yesterday, one guy said "sure, no problem" and i called again to make sure, and a lady said "nope, no can do." So what do we do? Bargle w/ them then mail it in?

Make sure you ask for a Supervisor. The normal CSRs don't really know anything. When the Supervisor says it's fine, make sure you get their Name and Extension. Also note the date and time you called. That way if there was ever a problem you can dispute with them.

Okay, so how about this. Don't take any chances. Buy from Dell. Then buy from Best Buy to get the rebate receipt, then return the monitor. It's a little snakey, but it's better than losing out on $100 because the rebate processor doesn't have it's head on straight.

i also called to verify if Dell was an authorized dealer and they said NO NO NO......too bad, this would've been a great deal

johnnymk, how you know LCDs will go up in price again? I thought computer equipment lowers in price every few months....right people? Like in Christmas, most 15" LCDs should be about $300?

This should put an end to the REBATE QUESTION:

    My Question:

I am getting mixed information. If I purchase a VG-150 LCD from Dell, will I be eligible for the current $100 mail in rebate? Current rebate number is 01-37786.

    Thank you.

    Viewsonic's Reply:

    Dear Customer:

    Thank you for your inquiry.

    - If you buy a VG150 between July 1st and August 31
    - Fill in the information on the rebate form
    - Send the rebate documents within 30 days of purchase
    - Include the original UPC and the serial number
    - Include a copy of the store receipt

Then you can get your rebate.

    From Maxcat from Anandtech:

Additional Rebate Info: I called rebateHQ and inquired about the correct department number and the guy told me I'm out of luck with Dell. I then called Viewsonic and talked to a lady there who checked with her manager. Yes, we are eligible from a Dell purchase, as posted about. The important part is that if any of our claims are invalidated I was told to contact Viewsonic and send in copies of everything. They will then have Viewsonic Corporate cut you a check.

So basically, keep all your paperwork, emails, etc. If the rebate department tries to jack you, then go with the Viewsonic Corporate Office.

Excerpt from PC MAGAZINE AUG. 2001

When we reviewed 15-inch LCD monitors earlier this year ("Look at This," February 6, 2001), the average street price was somewhere around $1,000. Since then, LCD monitor prices have been in free fall, with some brand-name 15-inch LCDs now selling for under $500.

The reason? Supply and demand. During the past year, new LCD fabrication plants have come online, especially in China, Korea, and Taiwan. At the same time, sagging sales in the desktop PC market have spilled over to affect notebook sales, causing demand for LCD panels to be lower than forecasted, hence the lower prices.

According to Rhoda Alexander of Stanford Resources, this situation may not last forever. "We're already seeing signs of [price] increases for the fourth quarter of 2001—and possibly further increases in 2002," she says. LCD makers are operating in the red now and can't sustain such low price levels. But buyers have grown to expect the prices of LCD monitors to hover at around $500, so manufacturers will likely try to keep at least some models at that price.
