OK, I need to blow through the $600 good 'ol Uncle Sam is sending me, and I thought what better way to get rid of it all at once than with a shiny new digital camcorder?

So I want to stick close to the $600 mark - what's a good choice? I don't need the ability to take still pictures, so I don't care about that. What's the difference between miniDV and Digital8? Any preferences?
