Is this X10 deal any good? http://www.x10.com/welcome/firecrack...e_landing1.htm

Are you obligated to spend more $ on their site later?

Yeah, its good. I got it, and also a replacement switch for my wall. Pretty nice. The transmitter doubles as an appliance module, so this will let you turn on and off and dim one lamp and turn on and off one appliance (note, the appliance module has a relay in it and makes a rather loud clicking sound when activated, don't think you are going to use this discreetly.

Go for it - great deal. Especially good for the X-mas season, it was nice to be able to turn the lights on and off by remote or computer. I had a wall switch and another lamp module already, so it's been fun. I hooked up the lamp module to a model train set (probably really electrically unsafe), and you can use the dimmer to speed up and slow down the trains... cool.

Yeah, the firecracker is pretty cool, but its kind of like crack - they give you your first hit really cheap, but if you want more it's gonna cost you, and you're not going to be able to stop yourself. (We don't need to discuss how much I've spent on X10 stuff.) For $6, it's a great way to be able to turn on your lamps from a distance without installing a wall switch.

Use a disposable email. X10 will spam you until you die if you don't, and it's impossible to get off of their list.

i got in on a similar deal almost a year ago when it was posted on slashdot. i haven't been able to get the kit working yet. i gave up after a while, so it is just sitting in a shoe box with all of the other spare computer parts i have. hmm, maybe i should dig the firecracker back out and impress the ladies with dimming lights??

hey Hrudey i dont appreciate you saying Im "scamming" people by offering them MY vouchers for $3..i could use them to get $15 worth of stuff and sell that stuff, would that be "scamming">> ??

..i was making them available to people who wanted to save money if they were buying from x10.com already and didnt have a voucher...and some people dont like getting the email-a-day spam that you have to put up with from x10.com to get the vouchers...if you dont want the vouchers then dont get em but please dont make comments such as I am scamming someone...this is a capitalist country!
