What does the US do now?

I would like this to be a forum where we can talk about what the US should do in terms of possible responses as well as posting suggestions about what we can do as an individual, community and nation to support each other.

I have a t-shirt that says "Made for, bought by, worn by an American". I'm going to wear it tomorrow.

Also... our concern has to be for the children of our country as well. Try to find web sites that help us to explain to them in an appropriate way the events of yesterday. Children tend to be more scared if they are left in the dark. Make sure to talk to them and get them to express themselves

we have no idea where bin laden is. however, i guess the feeling is that afghanistan is behind it in some fashion. this is not the first attack. maybe "stooping to their level" may level the playing field
say "hi" to lumbergh for me

personally, i don't care if osama is in afghanistan or not, they should still bomb or invade it. the same goes for any place that has/is giving aid to terrorist groups.

these groups cannot function to the degree they have without the support that they are getting from various countries. this makes these places just a responsible as the terrorists and in my mind, gives us ample reason to take them out.

i don't care if there are women and children there because they have no respect for human life. they are there because they are supporting them and should no longer get away with it. if they were really "innocent women and children", they would be far far away or trying to stop the violence.

but they're not, therefore take them out.

I would like to see bin laden captured, but I don't think we should just rush into it. We don't need anymore Americans killed because of that a$$hole. It must be planned out.

The last thing we would want to do is invade Afghanistan. Don't forget that they beat Russia, using weapons we gave them. Russia got away with doing alot less pleasant methods than we can as well, ie mines shaped like toys. We don't need to go around killing without regard to who it is. Just because they act like animals does not mean we should become like them. bin Laden should be caught and I think the Taliban should suffer but we need to watch out for another quagmire.

Also, we really do not know who the enemy is. Most of us think it's Bin Laden, but what if it's another McVeigh?

last night i said something i never ever thought i'd say. my gf and i were talking, and she asked what i think we should do if war started. we're very close to the capitol and pentagon, obviously a prime target. she thought we should leave the area to somewhere safer.

but you know what? i said i think i'd even volunteer. every military effort that's occurred during my life has been in response to US interests: allies, oil, trade, etc. things i don't necessarily think were appropriate. but i was sitting last night and thinking just how horrible i feel because of this. it was such a terrible feeling of impotence yesterday when someone i love was stuck within DC. there was nothing i could do, except wait and hope like hell that nothing else falls from the sky.

i'd do anything to make what happened yesterday impossible to replicate. i want to wake up and not worry about what i'm going to see on the news. i want to have children someday, and not have to explain to them that a handful of demented people were martyred for wasting the lives of thousands of innocents. war seems a hyprocritical answer to the things i want, but for a group of people whose only means (death), equals their only end (death), i can't think of a more logical solution.

They know for a fact it was some Arab group. They talked to a guy who had a confrontation with a couple of them in one of the airports, and they searched the car and found aviation manuals. They are also searching the houses of these people, and there is so doubt they are Arabs. Bin Laden is a good place to start.

You forget the most likely response:

Randomly bomb and persecute person who are different than us.

Guilty? Innocent? Who cares? They ain't red-blooded Americans.

Remember Grenada? That's what they did they last time there was a disaster and no easy target to blame.

Also remember that Afganistan has one of the worst landmine problems in the world. Landing American soldiers to be mine fodder would be a potential disaster.

  17. #17
We don't know if they were involved yet. Let's hold off on judging right now untill we know who did it for sure. Attacking the wrong people would be worse than what was done to us. When we do find the right people AND THOSE HARBORING THEM. We can exact our just revenge.

True, but our military wil drop well trained dogs with the soldiers. Dogs are trained for finding traps and explosives.

i think we are about to see any HINT of terrorism handled very differently. declaring war on america and doing a lot of talking is now going to be enough to get you in a world of hurt. i think this will even apply to white americans like mcveigh who collect guns on their northern ranches... we're going to be as "no tolerance" on terrorism and anti-america talk as we are on violence/weapons talk in our schools.

No, no, no. It's JUSTICE, not revenge. We should not be out to retailiate, but rather prevent the person who has done this from doing it again. In getting revenge retaliation can just keep going back and forth.

Don't get me wrong, I would'nt mind seeing the look on the face of whoever did this when they have a bunch of cruise missles headed for them in whatever country they are in.

Yeah, and a goodly amount of torture would be prudent as well.

    EVIL LEADERS:

    david koresh: goofy-lookin.

adolph hitler: butt-ugly, no sense of style (mustache like a dead caterpillar) and stupid name

king leopold of belgium: his beard was even bigger than bin laden's

michael jackson: he keeps tryin, but lordy, it's just goin downhill.

that dude frome jonestown with the grape koolaid: dunno. but i bet he was goofy, too.

hmmm, now if reverend evil and evilcyclops would kindly submit their pictures, we will be well on our way to proving this theory...

Don't inmates have to be clean shaven? I hope so. B/c according to the Taliban, if you shave your beard in Afganistan, it's a crime, and you are imprisoned until it grows out.

If I could have one wish come true it would be to capture Mr. Bin Laden, put him on Afghanistan TV, torture him until he gives up the names and locations of every person and organization who was involved, and have doctors on hand ready to give him a blood transfusion or whatever is needed to keep him alive during the process.

Then if he's still alive after he betrays his entire organization, airlift him right into the middle of "The Base" (what he calls his camp) and let his own people finish him off.
