There were protests at UC Berkeley over this cartoon. Mostly they were white, bleeding heart students who wouldn't have a clue if it crashed into them at 500mph!
What do you think?
BTW, the paper is standing by the cartoon.
Yes
No
I am not sure. I just like to vote on these polls

I'm surprised it's not Jack Chick's work
Shall we buy a new guitar?
Shall we drive a more powerful car?
Jack Chick offends me.
But this cartoon doesn't.

I personally am not offended by the cartoon. However, I think we need to realize that it is taking a swipe at one particular religious belief. As a comparison, consider how you (TLG) might feel if there was a cartoon making fun of Jews celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (I am certainly not advocating such, but it might help to see things from another perspective.)
stay low... keep moving...
Ok first of all Jews don't kill themselves for Rosh Hashanah
Second of all nope doesn't offend me

is the whole "servicing by 40 whores" bit really a part of the religion?

Doesn't offend me either. Political correctness will be taking a much needed vacation.
That is totally irrelevant to the point I am making. What I am trying to get people to see is how the cartoon could be offensive to followers of Islam. If something comparable were printed poking fun at the Jewish religion, the Jewish Antidefamation League would probably be quite outspoken against it.Originally posted by Burzhui

I have no problem with it whatsoever. It speaks to the fact that these people were not religious, they were fanatical to the point of obscuring the central points of their faith.
I think the only people that were offended by this were those that are blindly reactionary and anti-establishmentarian for the pure sake of being so. Butch and I went to college with scores of them; while I surely don't consider myself a solid conservative by any stretch of the imagination, just reacting negatively to whatever those in power says seems to be in vogue among many of people my age.
This is not condemning those of "true" Islamic faith. It's condemning those that have twisted and perverted that faith.

maybe those that were offended by this saw merely had a different understanding of it than you did. if you don't agree, that doesnt make them "blindly reactionary." they may have valid points in the endOriginally posted by pennypinch

I'm not offended, but don't you think this is a little unnecessary considering the way arabs arebeing targeted right now. It's not wrong, just inappropriate i think.
We have a right to print and say things that people in other countries cant.
We also have a right to disagree with anything that is said or printed.
AND WE ALSO HAVE THE RIGHT TO NOT GIVE A DAMN!(lil cartoon depicting a group of people in an unexpected position, now thats a new idea)
I dont believe in flag burning(you dont love it, than leave it), but i support the rights of Americans to do so. This would be the worst time for anarchist to "express themselves", but it is their right. Difference of opinion is the American way!

I have a relative who doesn't celebrate birthdays, holidays, etc.(You can figure out the religion)> Her relatively new husband wanted to display the flag last weekend. He was in the Navy for a long time. She said "No". It's against her religion. He buckled under and didn't display it.
Well, she has the right to not fly the flag, but I also have the right to call her a Commie Pinko and her husband a Wimp.
