For a while anyway. I've been giving this some thought for a while now, well before the attack on the WTC. Too many people are ready to start bitching at the drop of a hat - no one seems to be able to take a joke anymore, or let bygones by bygones. Frankly, I have enough bullsh*t going on in my life, and I come to the GA forums to escape such nonsense. I used to think that the GA members were part of a supportive community - now I'm not so sure.

I need some happiness in my life, now more than ever. To that end, I have to say goodbye to GA, at least for now.

OC is right, its almost been too weeks sice the WTC, yes it was big, but it doesnt hav to be the subject of everyting! every1 says just live our live as normal, but if its mentioned every 10 seconds we cannot do so. if it effeted you or will effect you in some way, i send my regairds, but if it didnt, stop writing about it, G|A is my place to fool around, not get anoyed

I don't know you. But from what I've read, it's totally not you. You seem like a really nice and sincere guy. People are just taking things entirely wrong, cause their head is not in the right place, for whatever reason. No need to leave, seriously, people trip. It's not your fault. i'm thinkin that it's pretty judgemental for one person to decide how "sensitive" another person should be. it's really a load of crap to be saying stuff like "it doesnt bother me, so what's the big deal" or whatever. stuff doesnt have to bother you for it to bother someone else. if someone is "more sensitive", then maybe stuff is happening and they reach their breaking point. it's better than having to put up with sh*t all the time

Hey remember early in the life of Gotapex (early-mid 2000) when everybody was an angel here?? Nobody said anything offensive and jokes were jokes(except in religious debates). Now Gotapex looks and sounds like any other damn forum on the web. I knew it would happen sooner or later. I guess nows the time. People are blaming the WTC attacks, but it's not just that. It's been going on for a while now. I personally find myself visiting less and less. Oh well. Maybe someday I'll leave. And then I'll never be able to come back, cause I won't know anybody.

i went through a similar phase where i decided i should just leave, for a slightly different reason - i just can't keep my damned mouth shut and let it go when someone else says something i deem stupid. but, since this is an important way of screwing around for me, i'm just attempting a little self-induced behavior modification - ie, let it go!!

and, although the wtc certainly exacerbated things, it was happening before that. i agree w chosenfool. certain personalities just grated on others, and the more we all talk, the better we think we know each other, and the more annoyed we get... i think it'll all smooth out once people decide who to ignore and who to leave alone.

and i'll bet you can't stay away for long, oc... you love us too much.

I agree with you welfare, I think that people need to learn how to "let go" and simple ignore comments made by others that seem unpleasant to you. If you feel like you need a timeout, go ahead and take it. It will probably do you good. Maybe spending every single day hanging out in the forums isn't a great idea anyway. I personally get on here during weekdays only. That way, my life is balanced

i agree that the web is faceless. i agree that some things should be just let go. i also agree that nanotech was kidding. a lot of good points being brought up here.

personally, my whole thing would have to go along the lines of people having an open mind...and as darkfury touched on, not forcing their opinions on others. cuz that's all it is...an opinion. i see a lot of this stuff where people say stuff like "anyone who does this is wrong" or "anything this person says is wrong." some people are like kids that never learned to share their toys or sumpin.

but oh well...who really cares in the end. people don't have to agree with me. i'll just keep saying stuff that i believe to be right and hopefully someone will think twice about something or nod or laugh or something positive. if not, they can piss up a rope. hopefully if i'm wrong i'll learn the right way. i learn a lot of other views here. so....party on!

In the law there is the rule of the egg shell plaintiff, which means that you take the plaintiff as they are, and not how you think they should be. In other words, just because any "normal" person would not have broken their leg because you kicked them, you have to just accept the fact that this person did in fact break their leg. Unfortunately, this rule has developed from the real world. There are (probably) plenty of people here who can take a joke or a good ribbing but for every person here who can take a joke, there are going to be some individuals who cant. Either they just dont get it, dont find it funny, or were raised in such a way that such a thing would never be consider a laughing matter.

I think we have all seen threads that have gone over the edge, whether it is because of the subject matter, replies, or just a rouge individual. We have all seen the dark side of humanity. Whether it is when an unscrupulous individual tries to make a profit on junk or when some horrible incidents happen in the real world. At the same time we have all seen the good people can do by attempting to reach out and help others. I have personally had people try (and succeed) to help me with various computer problems. We use each other as soundboards for ideas, problems, and grievances. Whether it be in romance, work, or just the every day pet peeves we experience. I think that is what keeps people from coming back to this site.

When I first came to this site I just looked at the deals and perused the forums a bit. I didnt even register because I didnt feel like it. For whatever reason a few months later I finally decided to register and actually take part in a conversation. I have never been what you call a rabid poster nor do I try to interject myself into every thread out there. I respond only when either a) I have useful or pertinent information b) I find the discussion interesting or c) I just cant resist it because there has been way too perfect a set up. (Hey I am only human ) While I have strived never to piss anyone off with my post, i realize that I have not always been successful.

I believe that in many instances the anonymity offered up by the internet has opened up discussions that would never have occurred in the real world. How many people here can say that they have ever judged or been judged on the way they look? Whether it is being called a cracker while walking down the street or being called a lardass just because you are overweight, people automatically form opinions of you the instant they see you. Its an unfortunate fact of life and one which will never truly be overcome. As such, many of the conversations which occur here may never have occurred in the real world.

We all come to this site with our own prejudices, experiences, and opinions. Everyone is entitled to have their own and express it. WHile I may not like some of them and may in fact want to silence them, I have realized that you just have to let the "idiot" say whats on their mind, because at some time or another, we are all that "idiot" in someones mind.

So in summation, there will always be people on this site who say things that you dont agree with. There will also always be people who cant or dont or wont get a joke. You just have to let it roll over you and just think about the fact that those people with their outdated or incorrect ideas will eventually get theirs. If someone is so sensitive that they are always getting hurt, they will either learn to avoid it (as cats did with electric shocks) or will grow thicker skins and take it. Either way, dont allow yourselves to get driven off from somewhere just because someone or some people have ticked you off. Just weigh the benefits you gain from the harm/ills you suffer and if you still are getting more good than bad, just stay. If not, then stop banging your head up against the wall, either get a wrecking ball and remove the wall or just walk away.

every once in a while someone will decide to leave because "everyone else isn't thinkin right" or some such stuff. i dunno how everyone else is thinkin. i only know what i see here, and i have to figure it from there. but i'm not really gonna. you peeps may agree with me on certain things (ie: hapoo and coleslaw getting a room), and not on other things (the stuff you're wrong about )

at any rate, you can't leave and expect it to be different later in your favor. maybe, but that would be very limiting in itself if you could have that power. people will think what they wanna think, and that's pretty much that. they will also have their reasons, so it's not as simple as just "they are ignorant" or "they are stupid".

if people seem "too sensitive", then maybe they are trying to get rid of hate that prevails and shouldnt exist. maybe not, but who are we to judge. we dont always understand everything that we can. and we don't always see things from the other person's standpoint. it's true that we will say things here that we wouldnt say to a person's face, lest we end up in the hospital or summin. perhaps those things shouldnt be said instead of insisting the other person "learn to take a joke" or "grow thicker skin" or whatever. if a lot of people have a problem with things i say, i have to accept that it may just as well be the content of what i say, rather than everyone else having a problem

Either way, I say take what is said here with a "grain of salt" for the most part. I do feel that some folks take things said here too personally, but then again, when people direct their "opinions" at particular people rather than issues, then I can see why that happens.
