Perhaps sho.gun is referring to that bicycle-riding idiot that used a bb pistol at the drive up window to hold up a Taco Bell and also demanded a chalupa. They gave him some money and told him the chalupa would take a moment (while they called the police). He waited for it (and the police) and ended up getting shot by them (in the butt or something) as he tried to ride away while threatening them with his "weapon".

I don't find Taco Bell food at all apetizing. It must be all the times I got food poisoning from them.

Gorditas are better than chalupas! Though all Mexican food is meat, cheese and a flour roll in some variation or another.

How lovely of you to point that out. I'm sure that people who are lucky enough to obtain college educations, graduate with the sole DREAM of working at fast food joints to make your life easier. :upset: Just because the Taco Bell employees don't understand your garbled attempts at Spanglish, doesn't make THEM idiots.

BTW, you might want to brush up on your Spanish next time you head over to a Chinese restaurant so you can get "what you want." A majority of the chefs are Hispanic.

Well, but juju, I sort of agree with him. Here's my experience and why I feel that way...

Here in the town I live in, we have A LOT of hispanics. Now, I am not a racist. By any means. But almost EVERY store & restaurant has people working there that DO NOT KNOW ENGLISH very well at all! I do understand that even if some people know English as well as I do, some of them will have accents heavy enough that it is harder to understand them. I'm not talking about those people. I'm talking about the ones who have been here in America for DECADES and have made little or no attempt to learn English. Our church had a custodian that had lived here for almost 40 years and they HAD to communicate with a translator because she didn't understand English. I'm sorry. That royally pisses me off. If I immigrate to or move to a country where English is not the main language, then I will at least TRY and learn the language. These families that are teaching their young children to speak NOTHING but Spanish should move back to Mexico or some other country that speaks Spanish as the primary language. If you want to raise them to be bilingual, and speak Spanish primarily around the home, great! I have no problem with that. But DAMMIT, do NOT expect me to learn Spanish JUST SO I CAN COMMUNICATE AT MCDONALD'S HERE IN MIDDLE AMERICA!

Sorry, but it is a sore spot. I seriously need to move away from here before I become so jaded that I become racist. *sigh*

i dunno. i find it cool that there are pockets of ppl who don't need to learn english. they're surviving just fine, and it's little more than an annoyance to you, so no big deal. and you can communicate damned near anything useful with combination of gestures, a few well-chosen words, drawings, etc. just look at it as a game. makes me feel like a tourist without spending the money to go anywhere.

yeah, it would be ok if it were every so often or just a couple of places, but almost everywhere you go in this town it is like that. The worst part is when you don't understand them and when you say that, they make you feel like YOU are wrong. I'm sorry. I'm in America. In America, the primary language is English. If you don't care enough to learn it well enough to work with the general public, then DON'T DO IT! And that custodian I mentioned? It was like pulling teeth trying to talk with her, using gestures, etc. Here's the difference. We have a bunch of Asians here in Garden City, too. I sometimes have trouble understanding them, but most of the time, that is because they have a heavy accent. They know English well so I have learned to speak around the accent.

Umm, I wasn't attacking any of this.

I was talking about how El Scorcho so quaintly claimed that, since he was taking Spanish, he could now order at the Taco Bell. Forgive me, but I found THAT to be blatantly racist. The RACE of the pimply teen at the fast food joint is irrelevant. I could barely make myself care about my last job, which paid $15/hour. At minimum wage, don't expect people to be happy with their jobs and to NOT screw up your orders, regardless of race.

Don't even get me started on how he correlated intelligence with one's ability to speak English.

Oh, I know. lol The whole thing just brought up a sore point. LOL I wasn't attacking either of you.

And what I was saying didn't have anything to do with intelligence, either. The people here aren't stupid. (Well, some of them are, I'm sure, but not because they don't speak English...) Does it make sense, though, what I said?
