24X Burner + 24X Media
Been looking as of recently for a 24X burner. The one's that most people I know seem to be talking about are the 24x Plextor and LiteOn Burners. Anybody know pros vs cons on these burners? What about 24x media from Verbatim, TDK, and Plextor? Verbatim seems to be the cheapest. What should I know about these drives and media before buying? Thanks to all!

CD Writers and Media
I recently bought the TDK 24x10x40 VeloCD from Buy.com while they were offering free shipping. I paid $149 and they also sent 50 80 minute CDRs (TDK Brand). I haven't used them yet, but I've used other media that was rated at 8X and it burned at 24x. Some of my blank CDs are rated at 8X and the others are 12X.
I assume that this drive is like my Iomega 12x10x32 (made by Plextor) which checks if the media can write at the chosen speed. Every CD I've copied with it has copied at 12x regardless of the speed that it's rated.
I've got over 600 blank CDs, I buy them whenever I get a good deal. The usual price was around $26 for 100, unless a rebate was involved. Since they're working at 12x and 24x, I'm happy. A CDRW, on the other hand, will only write at it's rated speed. I think that there's something that the CD writers read from the CDRW to let them know what speed to write.
I would have bought the Plextor 24x10x40, but it came down to price at this time. One nice thing is that it came with Nero which I upgraded to the newest version from their web page. I recommend Nero over Easy CD Creator.
