    desktop.....win98SE
    laptop......winXP

i couldnt' stand winME, it was so crappy. XP is so much better. one i have time, i'm goin to put XP on the desktop. everything is all good so far except for virus, which i don't have. hence my hesitation to put it on my desktop cause i'm on that more, and online with it more than my laptop.

    WIN2K
i think a poll here would just look like:

    win95
    win98
    winNT
    win2k
    winME
    winXP
    other

lol...that's cuz you would never get all the linux versions, kernels, etc, in. let alone all the mac OS's, unix variants, etc. linux would easily be jipped if you just listed it as "linux"...and then all the different windows users would get mad if you didnt put their particular windows version in. to me, just bunching all the linuxes and stuff together would be like having a poll that looks like this:

    windows
    linux
    unix
    macOS
    other
say "hi" to lumbergh for me

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

WIN95 on the ol' school laptop

WIN2K on my roommates awesome desktop. I love WIN2K. It's so stable. Check out the last PC mag for the test results for XP vs WIN2K. I think we'll stick with WIN2K until there's a real reason to use XP.

I've got Windows 98 (first release) on both my systems. But I should have a copy of XP Pro arriving soon thanks to that sweet Certified Partners deal. Hey, I'll be getting a lava lamp, too.

And don't get me started about VMS. Like I've said before (you can do a search on threads with VMS any my name), VMS is the best operating system around, bar none. It was developed by Digital Equipment Corporation and ran on their VAX computers, then on the Alpha. Microsoft tried to copy it with Windows NT (Dave Cutler designed VMS then later jumped to Microsoft). To let you in on a slight difference, crashes on VMS are almost unheard of. Also, VMS systems tend to be quite secure. Alas, if DEC hadn't been so lousy on marketing, we could be so much better off in the computing world today.

Well, looks like you got me started on VMS.

Dude, I remember driving to Austin once and saw a car with a vanity plate that read, "VAX WIZ." That wasn't you, was it?

Win2K with f***ed kernel or mobo on another, i.e. laying dormant waiting to be fixed.

Nope. And remember, VAX is (or rather, was) the "iron", VMS (or OpenVMS) is the OS. That "VAX WIZ" might have been a hardware type (or maybe "VMS WIZ" was already taken).
