    Gnome or KDE

    which do you prefer and why?

    KDE... Just cause its better

    you didnt say window maker....for shame! it's the lightest and the best.
    between the bloated 2, i would have to say gnome running enlightenment...but that would be for "popular usage." i actually run kde. peeps say it looks like windows, but i dont see it. now, xfvwm95 looks like windows....

    kde is actually based on the cde environment for unix, btw...and as for why i use it, it's just cuz it doesnt matter a lot. i can get used to anything really. since the most robust stuff is command line, then it's not like i worry about a pretty console too much (although the gnome console thingie is pretty, too...since you can put a pic in there). the best thing for a beginner (i'm not saying you are, but in general) to do would be to load them all and just run one at a time and see what you like. gnome is nice cuz you can run other managers with it and it will allow you to swap them. if you get hardcore, you will prolly end up with window maker, tho.
