Let's talk about zits, baby. Let's talk about you and me.

    Yes, let's discuss.

Anyone know how to get rid of pesky zits? I've tried Oxy, toothpaste, aloe from my dad's aloe plants, but they just don't go away. I don't wipe my palms all over my face all day. Homemade remedies would be nice.

they are caused by a lot of things.

On your body, most of the time, this time of year it is the temperature of your shower water -- if you take your shower too hot, your skin dries out and produces more oils to proctect itself.

On your face, the same can be happening. The wind, air is drying your skin out and you are cleaning it and taking the natural oils away. Try a moisturizer. Use a milder soap (Ivory or Oil of Olay).

If it is something that has been happening for a while, "horrormones" and all you can do is the same and if it gets worse, a doctor maybe able to get ya something for it.

There's such a thing as washing your face TOO much. If you use cleansers with alcohol (check the ingredients) both night and day, they'll dry out your skin, causing it to produce more oil and - that's right! - more zits. Ever since I switched to alcohol free cleansers and toners, the zit situation has VASTLY improved.

I don't know just how "Chinese" you are, but I'm going to throw a couple of cultural things out there, and if you need some more clarification ... umm, uhh ... ask your mom.

It's tough as a teen, but try to control your eating habits because they DO affect your skin. Cut down on things that are considered "volatile" (sounds like "hot air" in Cantonese) for your body: fried foods, nuts, chocolate, caffeine, etc.

There are lots of Chinese herbal teas out there that somewhat counter the effects of "volatile" foods. My old standby is chrysanthemum tea, and I don't mean the sugared kind in little foil packets. Actual DRIED chrysanthemum flowers. Let them soak in a cup of hot water for a bit, strain the pulp, and down that puppy.

Oh, and control those raging hormones.

drink lots of water. that's like night and day for me. and don't skip a washing, ever. if i get lazy and go to bed without washing my face, three days later i have like 10 zits (yep, 25, and still a hormonal mess...) and don't wash your face too often or too seldomly. twice a day is right for most peeps, but if your skin is especially oily, three might be right, or maybe just once if it is dry. if your skin feels tight afterwards, use a light facial moisturizer... i use a combo of clean n clear's anti-acne lotion (it has salicylic acid) and suave exfoliating lotion. yep, you gonna hafta buy some girlie-type stuff, but it will help...

oh, and the best face wash is anything with triclosan, which is the same antibacterial agent in colgate total... it works really well.

and the toothpaste thing does work, becasue fluoride ions are nasty evil particles that kill germs. but other things work too, so there's no good reason to put toothpaste on your face...

I was a noxema user, still am i guess..

Well, I never really had zit problems.....I almost never washed my face thoroughly before sleeping.....and rarely took care of my face with some weirdo creams or pads...

with my indifferent attitude in HS & college, I'd get some zits once a monthish.... Then I'd wash my face for 2 or 3 nights w/ noxema, and they'd go away....repeat.
every now and then, I'd use astringent cause i liked the feel of alcohol on my face, and seeing the dirty cotton balls when i was done

Then came senior year of college....STRESSSSSSS
I've had zits since...and now, I'm starting to wash my face more regularly with noxema...it's working well...
maybe I should start washing my face more
we should get another smiley face with zits on them

Here're two sort of regimens that work pretty well. I get maybe 4 zits a year, been that way since I was in elementary school. My idiot brothers, who refuse to listen to me, have decidedly worse skin.

    - I didn't believe it, but I have friends who bought that "pro-activ" thing advertised on TV, and I was amazed how well it worked for them. Now, don't ask me if was placebo effect, just an increase in general washing, or if the thing actually works, but we're interested in results here, not why's-and-wherefore's.

    - A nightly regimen of Noxema. When I do get blemishes, the best stuff I've found is Spot Remover from Origins.

Well, I don't need to worry about that, since I don't work out and I'm all bone.
