I think I need some links, but I've heard really good things about the Onkyo.

Wow...both are so huge!! The Onkyo is "7.1 Channels." How do you get that anyway?? 4 Rear Channels or something?
Cripes, both of those look awesome!

The back of the Onkyo looks exactly the same. The specs are exactly the same too.
In Hong Kong, the Onkyo TX-DS989 can be purchased for about $900 I hear.
I couldn't see the Denon 5800 being $2000 better. The Marantz SR14EX is about $2500 more and may be a bit better musically but has far fewer features and is not as good for home theater. The Pioneer Elite VSX-49TX is supposed to be incredible, with calibration capabilities too, but is rather untested. I'm not sure if it's worth $2500-3000 over the Onkyo/Integra either. The Sherwood Newcastle R-963 is supposed to be not nearly as good as the two either, supposedly.
Wow, $2000-$3000 for a receiver. I don't deal in that kinda money for electronics. Enjoy whatever you pick.....
I figure buy a $3000 receiver for $900, use it for a year, sell it for more than I bought it for.
That's the only way I can justify it to the boss, err, wife.
I'll have to remember that.Originally posted by Apex

Are you going over to Hong Kong or something? If so, I'll take one!

Yeah it's interesting how most of the times these expensive electronics components are so much cheaper here in the states, but every once in a while they can be so cheap over in Asia. I was telling my friend in Korea about my new Denon AVR-1801 receiver. I said I paid a little over $300 for it. I was expecting him to be in awe of the price, but he said that it's the same over there. He said Denon has factories in Korea and they manufacture them over there and that's why they're so cheap.
Both of the those units are very. The Integra line is just the luxury class of the Onkyos. The differences are minor such as the Integra uses better amps and also comes with an extra year on the warranty (3 years vs. 2)
Onkyo and Integra are also now releasing their new product line. Take a look at the Onkyo 797 and 898, as well as the Integra equivalents.
One great website that I belong to that has tons of info on everything audio/video related is www.hometheaterforum.com They are probably the most knowledgeable on the subject and can give you a precise breakdown on the differences on the two along with suggesting some other receivers as well.
Hope this helps.
