Dear Jackpot Player,
As you know by now, we are having problems fulfilling the prizes for
our
Referral Launch Giveaway qualifiers. You may have already received an
email
from us asking if you would like to receive a Palm Pilot V or a $300
Ice.com
jewelry gift certificate. We are going to provide another option. You
now
have three choices:
1. Palm Pilot
2. $300 Jewelry Gift Certificate
3. $300 cash (actually a check)
We are including the cash offer because of the extremely large number
of
qualifiers, and the current scarcity of Palm V's. Please select which
prize
you would like, and reply directly to this email with your choice. We
apologize for the delay in awarding these prizes.
There are a few things to consider when making your choice. First, the
$300
check will be easy to immediately fulfill, so you will have this prize
in
your hands quickly. The jewelry is an electronic gift certificate, and
also
will be easy to fulfill. If you would still like to receive a Palm V
as
your prize, we will make every effort to rapidly fulfill the order as
sufficient quantities of Palm V's become available.
Also, if you are located outside of the United States, you will receive
the
cash prize. Winners outside of the United States will have 37% of the
prize
deducted for United Stated Federal tax and California State tax. We
are
sorry to limit your choices, but our rules have clearly stated that we
reserve the right to award cash for all winners located outside of the
United States.
We are sorry that we had to ask again, but we wanted to provide all
qualifiers the same options. Please reply to this email so we will be
certain which of the three prize you desire. We will work hard to
deliver
your selection as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and
your
continued support. As a top referrer, you are one of our most valued
players.

Lieutenant Junior Grade
and i still never got an email about this even though i had 25 referrals.. phooey!
-
-
I'm gonna go with the Palm, hopefully, maybe they can give out Palm Claim certificates, I'd rather go to a store and claim it there than have them ship one to me.
-
I got that email to. Man, that's so sweet. $300 check it is! We can easily get Palm's for less, eh guys?
-
Lieutenant Junior Grade
Yes you can, but you'll run into the same problems as them; no Plam Vs in sight.
I will be buying a Compaq iPaq PDA (looks sweet). My Palm V is very nice tho.
-
The Vx is more readily available I believe.
-
Since this will be my first PDA, i had a few questions.
Apart from the memory, how does the V differ from Vx?
How quickly does one go through the 2 MB memory on the V? and is the memory upgradeable (if so, and I add 6 MB will it be effectively a Vx--or is it cheaper just to get a Vx?)
I am trying to decide on the $300 or wait for the Palm V (they told me it would take six weeks)
If I went for the $300 is there a better PDA on the market that I probably should put my money on? (or Jackpot's money
)
Sorry for these basic questions--but my experience on this BBS is that we have some very knowledgeable folks who are willing to offer advice.
-
I don't believe the Palm is upgradable. going thru the memory depends on how many games you put on it. I like the Handspring a little better. think of that as a stripped down version of a Gameboy.
-
Well, 2mb is fine if you don't install any programs or "extras". However, there are many things that can really eat up the memory. For instance, I'm using a bible program, which includes basic search functions. That's about 1.5mb already. All you need are a few others (ie. the movie times one) to put you over the 2mb limit.
Oh yeah, and they aren't upgradable. So again, if you think you're going to install a few programs (most people are), go with the Vx.
-
Take the $300 check, buy a Handspring Visor Deluxe (8MB) and have $50 to spare.

What's also nice about the Palm III and on (V, Vx, VII, etc) excluding the IIIe is that there is flash memory which you can use with products like FlashPro, made by http://www.trgnet.com. I'm using it on my Palm III, and have added 700k of usable memory to my 2MB, which is still not full. The only catch is that the flash ROM is non-volatile, so you can only put in things like applications, not documents that you edit all the time.
-
Thanks for the advice. I know I will need it for medical software, so I am sure I will use up the 2MB pretty quickly.
So I think I will go for the $300, and buy either a Vx or a Visor Deluxe. Any advantage of one over the other--apart from the better price of the Visor?
(This is your chance Vx and Visor Deluxe folks to speak your mind!)
Also, is anyone in favor of any of the Windows CE (PowerPC?) models?

Funny story. I had 27 referals, got a letter recently that said they found that some of them were invalid ? ? ? So I wasn't going to qualify for the award. I wrote and complained.
Then yesterday, I get a letter saying that they changed their minds and they asked what gift I wanted. Weird, but I'll take it!!!
