Well, I gave into the billion dollar advertising scheme of AOL Time Warner and went out to watch Harry Potter last night. Ninety-nine percent because my friends pressured me to go last night (I can't believe I waited in line 30 minutes to watch HARRY POTTER on OPENING NIGHT!!) and 1% because AOL Time Warner had brainwashed me enough that I was sort of curious to see how the movie turned out. Well, anyhow, it was childish entertainment of course, but quite well done I must admit.
I hadn't read the books, but I had heard the movie was made to be quite faithful to it's source and that was quite apparent by the kids' reciting lines during the movie. There is plenty of humor for both the kids and adults. The sets were well crafted and graphics done quite beautifully, too. But what really brings this movie to life were the characters. Every persona in the movie was so memorable with strong personalities and such childish - in a good way - energy (and how can you resist Alan Rickman??). I just wish I watched it 15 years ago. Roger Ebert said, "every generation has its classics, and Harry Potter just might become this one's." I somewhat agree with that. If you have kids, definitely take them to see this. If you're an adult with 9 bucks and an evening to waste, go and watch this. The experience itself of watching this in a room full of kids was quite rejuvenating. I felt 10 years younger afterwards.
