Thread: Chip for playstation???

  1. #1

    Post

My brothewr says I could get a chip for my playstation so that I could put copied games in and it will play them. Says it won't read a copied game without this chip. Is this true and if so how can I get one of these magical chips and how much is it?

yup, but the thing is if u haf one of the older model PS, it might not work cause the light beam is too weak. And u better haf ur own burner. It is pretty difficult to find burned PS games to buy in NYC nowadays.

it's true. you can buy them for 7-20 dollars depending on how many you buy. i have an extra one around if you're interested. do a web search for "mod chip".

Also depending on the model of psx you can use a Game Enhancer w/ a modchip in that. You got to have the port in the back of your psx. If you have the 9001 series (the $99 one everyone calls it) you can't use it. The earlier models will let you play backup games with the game enhancer. That is the way to go if you don't know how to solder. Modchips you install just make it easier, with the GE you have to use the swap tech. to do it.

Not that I would know anything about that.

I prefer HK Silvers. They read better.

Try www.modchip.com for the chip... I ordered one from a place like that something like 2-3, maybe even 4 years ago... i don't know, my PSX is the first generation, and was modded after less than 6months (i think?) of it's life, and has been in use about 4 of 7 days a week for a total of 20hrs or so for the past few years, and is still going strong. i only occasionally get a problem w/ a burned disc, but cleaning the disc and/or cycling the power on the PSX unit fixes it.... so.

    my 2 cents

Cool that this came up! My brother wants one for his birthday, which was yesterday.

I was just thinking of taking it into a game store, buying it, and having it installed for $40. I heard that it's a lot cheaper if you just buy it online but I don't know how to put it in. Any ideas?

Has anyone used the Playmod chip? I just say it now at http://www.playmod.com. It's supposed to be "plug n play". Any experiences?

    Thanks,

Try to stay away from the combo Modchip/Game enhancer ones, just get the chip and wire it in. I have modded over 100 psx's and have only run across 2-3 bad chips, whereas those game enhancers caused alot of skipping in the FMVs and in the game itself.

    How much the chip cost?
    I don't see any price at modchip.com
All I can see is the shipping rate.
Also, any suggestion on DC mod chip?

Go to National Console Support for their DC mod chip. I ordered from them and it's great!!!

BTW you can't copy DC games so it's only for playing imports.

I would advise you pay someone to mod it for you unless you have both the skills and equipment for soddering.
Here are some suggested links. I have used all of these companies:
    -Game Enhancer/Modchip(Hong Kong)http://www.lik-sang.com
    -Game Enhancer(USA)http://www.levelsix.com
    -Silvers(Thailand-Free shipping)http://www.borderworld.com
    -Blank CDs(USA)http://www.shop4tech.com

    -Scanned Manuals-http://www.psxmanuals.com
    -Patches and Trainers-http://www.gamecopyworld.com

Note: If you plan on buying a PS2, you might want to wait and get your PS2 chipped so you can use it to play copied PS1 and PS2 games

Is it certain that you can chip a PSX 2? I have not heard anything about it, but can you?

Yes you can. A swap chip (acts like a game enhancer for the PS) has been out for a week or so. A non-swap chip should be available in a couple more weeks.

    Check out the following sites.

Do any of you know where to get copied Dreamcast games? I am willing to buy from Asia or if you can find them here in the states, I'd be happy to pay you for the trouble of sending them to me. I am also willing to mod my Dreamcast if necassary. Thanks for your time guys.

One more time : There are NO dreamcast bootlegs anywhere in the world! Sega's GD-ROMs are proprietary, so people can't copy them.

I have a mod chip in my PS. I got my PS last xmas. The PS works great with copied games.
The cost of the chip and them putting it in was 45.00

Yes, I've ordered from Borderworld before. Shipping time depends on what type of shipping you choose. Free airmail takes about 2 weeks, depending on how close you live to a major city. They ar very reliable, I only missed one order(grabbed by Customs) and they replaced it for free with no questions asked. The silver quality is top notch. They are located in Bangkok, which means they use the high quality Thailand produced silvers rather than the mediocre Malaysians and poor HKs.

To my knowledge there is only ONE way to copy dreamcast games. It is this huge monstrocity that is a little bigger than the DC. Its kinda complex, requires soldering, and sets you back i think about 200 or so.

Why don't you just get the Smersh Cd iso and burn it. It's a cd that you insert first and allows you to play burned cds without a modchip or the ported gameshark. You just need to have a spring or similar device that will make the PS think the lid is closed, then insert the disk, run it, then take it out and put in the burned game. Works very well.

Because it doesn't work with multi-CD games.
