Sharing a 56(x2) modem

I've got two computers and two dedicated internet phone lines. Both computers run 56k connections. Is there any way I can network the two computers and use a modem that can be something like a dual 56k modem with two lines running to it and share that between the two computers? I have seen modems that will take two phone lines and theoretically run twice as fast as 56k, I was just wondering if you guys knew anything more on the subject. I've seen a 56k modem networked between 3 machines(Using it simultaneously) on Windows 2000 and it ran almost faster than the machines with seperate connections here at my house. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

hehehehe...seriously though, i think your best bet would be to grab one of those dual 56k modems...and use one of the machines as a gateway...i'm pretty sure windows has built in internet connection sharing (basically the same thing)...i've only done it with linux before, so i'm not 100% sure how windows does it.

Nope, no cable or dsl available. I really hate that, but that's how it is... Maybe I'll just see if I can find one of those dual modems. Any other suggestions from the Apexers?

This is a feature called "channel bonding" or "modem bonding". You're going to need an ISP that supports that feature in addition to the steps and equipment you'll need on your end. If you even find an ISP, they usually charge you $40+/month for that service.

Like aglio412 mentioned, you're much better off getting a cable or DSL service. However, if none of them are available or you're still interested in this, here's an article that covers a little more. The article is a little old but mostly, the information is still relevant. HTH
