Looking for some surround sound speakers

Ok.. well here's the deal. When I built my house, I asked that they prewire for surround sound. Well I've been thinking more and more about deciding what to get when I get around to doing this. These speakers go in the ceiling of the first floor.

Note: there is more than one floor... so size does matter on this one.

So suggestions on what to get that is small and great quality would be appreciated. Furthermore... prices would be nice. It'll be basically a 5.1 system. 4 in the ceilings. Once center on the entertainment center and there is an outlet in the corner of the room for the sub.

I would think anything too small would not handle the recommended RMS wattage the company suggested.

What's the weight limit of the ceiling brackets for the speakers? I recently bought my 25lb ones. A lot are 8lbs.

You really need to specify some type of price range for the speakers. Are you building a high end system or do you want to get away with spending as little as possible? Do you already have a receiver or do you need recomendations there as well? Have you considered the subwoofer?

Is mounting your front speakers on the ceiling something that you are determined to do, or would you be open to other suggestions? Mounting the rear speakers up there isn't so much of a problem, but I just wouldn't recommend it for your fronts.

Anyway, answer these questions and we can probably come up with a pretty good solution for you.....also describe the room a bit better.....is it open to other areas? What else is the room used for?.....stuff like that.

Room is about 14 x 14. I don't mind spending money for a good system. I just want options... so I guess I'd like to know what the bare minimum for a decent system would be and how much for a mid range

Ok, you didn't answer all of my questions, but I am going to work with it

Since this is Got|Apex?, I am going to recommend all internet only companies that you have probably never heard of......However, these companies are VERY highly regarded in the home theater industry, and represent some of the best values that you will ever find. Please don't dismiss them because of the brand.....do some research and you will see that I am not making all of this up....I will provide links for that as well. Here goes:

I would recommend the 20-39cs @ $449. However, this sub does not come with amplification, but I will get to that later.

RECEIVER:

This receiver is an excellent value, and has an extra channel of amplification since you are only setting up a 5.1 channel system. I belive that you could use the extra channel to power that sub. However, I would only do this long enough to find a dedicated sub amp, as it probably isn't the best thing in the world for your reciever. I have heard of people doing this with no problems though. You won't need a super amp to power the sub....you can read more about that on your own though.

SPEAKERS:

Speakers are the most objective components in the home theater, but these get rave reviews, don't cost much, and personally they are some of the coolest looking speakers I have seen. I also remember seeing something on the website about people hanging these, and having no problems, so they may be perfect for you.


Total cost is $1798, plus the possible shipping charge here and there. For that cost, I would say that you are getting a VERY decent home theater setup. I honestly don't think that you could put together something better for less money.

If I am not mistaken, all of these companies offer no questions asked return policies, so you really don't have much to lose.

How's the Outlaw 1050 compared with something like a Denon 3802 or Onkyo 797? Is 65watts/channel enough to power JBL S312's? I'm using 50watts/channel right now (Toshiba SD6109c, which has integrated Onkyo amp) and it's woefully inadequite.

To answer the power question, I must say that I really don't know, but I have heard that it is very underrated.....it would definatly be a vast improvement over what you have now. As compared to other models, once again I don't know....I personally use a Marantz reciever, and don't have the oportunity to compare other stuff where I live.

I would definitately do some more research into it though Apex.....considering what you have now, I don't see how you could be disappointed with any of those models.
