jvc dv cam crashes windows 2000 when connected via USB
anyone have problems with USB memory card readers in win2k? my cam connects via USB and functions as a memory card reader (to access pics from the SD card)...shows up as a removable drive. every time i connect it (hub or directly) the computer crashes...it recognizes the device, installs the software and then crashes as soon as windows sees it as a removable drive. the camera is a JVC GR-DVL815U, and i'm using an ABIT KT7A-RAID board with the newest VIA USB (and 4in1) drivers.

OK, this probably doesn't help you much, but I have the exact same camera & it works in W2K with no problems for me.
On thing that helped me out with some USB devices under Win98 was connecting the device BEFORE booting the computer. That's kind of a pain, but hopefully you'll be able to get your pictures.
Few things to try -
1. Format the card. I forget if there is a utility in the camera to format (not just erase) the card, but if so, give it a try.
2. Try formatting the card from within W2K. When the drive letter shows up, don't left click on the folder at all - right click & see if it lets you choose 'format'.
3. In device manager, delete the removeable drive, reboot, & try to reinstall it.
4. (More expensive option) If all else fails, get an external USB memory card reader. Try it in that rather than in the camera.

seriously though...tried all of those things, still no dice, looks like i'm gonna buy a reader...anyone know of a decent deal on one? i'm thinking one of those all in one readers, saw it on newegg for 35 bucks or so...

not that it matters...but i got it to work by installing win xp on one of my partitions...hmm...now, do i ditch win2k in favor of XP Pro?
