    problems with winxp

just recently i started using win xp and its really killing me. i have like 3 gigs of stuff that i had gotten off morpheous before i upgraded. i copied it over to my other pc though the network, them wiped my hdd and installed xp. when i copied the files back i could not use them! whenever i clic on them they open and them say that there is an invalid shortcut or comethingg. even worse is almost everytime i start up my computer, norton antivirus says "acces denied drive c" after i cliock ok, a window comes up called wdscan.exe and says that there is no drive in device\harddisk1\dr1 and i can never get rid of it. did virus scans with nav 2k2 and didnt show anything.

1)nortons doesn't like fat32 partitions in XP for some reason.
2)WinXP doesn't natively play mp3 files, try installing winamp and seeing if that resets the program pointers.

I'd guess either you have a bad install of xp, or some program/driver conflict. I'd also uninstall nortons, reboot, seen if any other error messages crop up, then reinstall it.

    winxp prob

thanks for the tips. just a couple things: the problem was not always occuring, just started a couple months ago. also, if i reformat, i will loose all my videos, mp3's etc becuase i cannot access them. if i try to copy it says that the file is invalid or cannot be found or something like that.

well, yeah if you format, you'll lose them.

You might want to try booting from the xp disk, and then instead of installing the software, select repair current installation.
