Buy E-Stamp Internet Postage ($40.95) and a Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 840c ($134.95) or 930c ($175.00) printer and get the DeskJet printer FREE via mail-in rebate from E-Stamp. Also, get $50 in free postage with the E-Stamp postage kit.
Rebate does not cover S&H or tax.
$13.50 (Shipping)+ $40.95 (E-Stamp kit price) = $54.45 (+tax)
Here's the link to the deal:
<a href="http://www.us.buy.com/soft/product.asp?sku=20299878">http://www.us.buy.com/soft/product.asp?sku=20299878</a>
Here's a review of the printer:
<a href="http://www.smartcomputing.com/articles/webonly/2000/w0201/01w01.asp">http://www.smartcomputing.com/articles/webonly/2000/w0201/01w01.asp</a>
Although there is a $20 off of $100 coupon floating around out there, there's no point in using it. E-Stamps will reimburse you for the full amount of the printer ($175) so in the end, you'll pay the same exact amount.
All I have to say is it's a damn shame I don't need a printer.

Any idea how this printer stacks up against the Epson 740 (which I'm led to believe is a best buy in its price range)? I ask, as lately it seems the 740 is available from everybody and his grandmother, at prices ranging from $30-60 after rebates.
-
damnit!!!!! and i just bought that other printer from staples. just my luck. well, whats the $20 off coupon?!?!? will this rebate actually work?? i'm kinda leary about relying on rebates.

"Must purchase E-Stamp Internet postage and HP DeskJet printer between June 3, 2000 and June 30, 2000 to receive the mail-in rebate for the full purchase price of the HP DeskJet printer. E-Stamp Internet postage and the printer must be on the same BUY.com receipt. Please allow 4-6 weeks for delivery. If you do not receive your rebate after 8 weeks of sending in your request, please send an email to [email protected] Rebate not valid with any other offer. One rebate per household. Offer subject to change or cancellation at any time. Your use of the E-Stamp service subject to standard service charges. Void where prohibited."
Do you think the $20 coupon is considered another offer? (The rebate goes out to E-stamp and HP, not buy.com)
Here's the buy.com coupon code for returning customers, which expires 6.30.2000:
Save $20 on a $100 order (80220131)

We also did the deal and took the 'not valid with any other offer' literally. I wouldn't want to take a chance.

Not meaning to nitpick, but Meppen's printer review link is for the HP 932C. The printer at buy.com is the HP 930C. Aren't these different models?
And yes, buy.com has lowered the price to $175.
I have NO interest in an E-Stamp Internet Postage thingie, but this is just too good a deal to pass up. (Maybe I can sell the postage thing for $15.)
And I'm going to be a coward, and take the "not valid with any other offer" limitation very seriously. It's just not worth risking the loss of a $175 rebate, due to the use of a $20 coupon.
Finally, I've never used a USB printer, just parallel port printers. Other than possibly being easier to connect to my computer (although I honestly don't see that my parallel port printers are difficult to hook up to the computer), what sort of advantages should I expect from USB?

Uh, the only difference is in the software that comes with them, one geared towards home, one geared towards business. You get to decide which is which.

AJ - I have no personal experience using the Lexmark 3200. None. But for what it's worth, I was told by an acquaintance recently that Lexmark refills (you know, those ink cartridges that have to be replaced every so often) cost around $40+.
If true (a big "if"), this would probably cause me to steer clear of the Lexmark 3200. Since I know that HP and Epson stuff can be had for considerably less than that.
But like I say, I don't know if it is true. So treat this as an unsubstantiated rumor, unless/until you manage to confirm it for yourself.

Price for the HP 930C is now $175.....deal just got better!
-
I dont know whether to get this one, or the one from staples (Lexmark 3200). I am very broke and dont really have $175 to send away for a while.
So.. my question to you all is, and I would really appreciate some good advice here since its a lot of money...Is this such a great printer that commands me losing all that money for a while over the Lexmark 3200???
-
hmmm it says the dpi for the hp is only 600.. the lexmark is 1200x1200 which is really good. but hp, in my opinion, is the best maker of printers. they last the longest and require little or no maintence. but thats just been my experience.
-
sounds good...but dam... don't need a printer anymore....just my freaking luck

Thanks, Meppen. I didn't know that was the only difference between the two models.
Is this a standard HP practice (selling identical printers, but with somewhat different software, and simply adding 2 to the model number)?
-
Thanks for the info, i'm gonna check up on print cartrages before I buy...
And HP has always done dumb stuff with Office/Home Geared Products, such as playing with the tags at the end (like Cxi, Cse etc.) and throwing the numbers off by a digit, with radical price differences because of bundled software...

I'm with sklim.... Its a totally separate deal...If you dont get your rebate, return the printer, no big deal.
I'm getting the $25 one from Staples anyway, no stamps bullsh!t, it costs less, and its a comparable printer...

i agree, the 20 off coupon is totally irrelevant to the rebate offered by eStamps. i think "any other offer" would be like another coupon 'ToWaRdS tHaT PrInTeR' or the Stamp package, but the 20 off is by buy.com for all purchases. isn't there a 30 off 150? i was gonna get the 840c, but since they lowered it, 930c iz a-okay

AJ, which printer did you get for $25, and is the offer still available?

Personally, I will NEVER BUY another Lexmark printer again. I had a Lexmark inkjet (I believe the model was 1200...Damn thing cost me $200) and the thing was nothing but a constant problem. Ink dried out, printed like crap, had to return it twice....it sucked. HP DeskJets last forever and work nice, plus the ink is much cheaper than other folk.

Yes, HP does change the name slightly to sell to different markets. I have a LaserJet 1100AXI which also sells under the model # 1100ASE. Same exact printer, but the software package differs slightly. I wrote HP and asked about the difference and this is what they told me.

Just a followup bit of info here for folks who got into this.....
There are two items missing in the the E-stamp package, the AMS CD and the electronic vault. If you want to use the software and free $50 postage go to:
<a href="http://www.estamp.com/registration10">http://www.estamp.com/registration10</a>
to sign up, they will ship the rest of the stuff and the $50 postage to you for free.
Stole this mother from another forum group......but I figured it was helpful information.

The printer I replaced was a Epson 740. Yes they have higher resolution, and are fairly fast, but my experience with HP's is there is no close comparison for longevity. We use HP's at work and print literally thousands of pages a month and they are great. I have 2 HP 720's and they are fast and furious and have beautiful print. My Epson has been in for service twice and it has something totally wrong with it. It prints beautifully still, but the speed is down to 1 page a minute--Go figure. Never buy a Lexmark.
-
I got the Lexmark Z51 after comparing it to just about every other inkjet in its price range, and the output easily beat every one of them. I literally can't tell the difference between the Z51 and a laser printer for text. The stupid carts ARE more expensive, at about $40 a pop, but worth it if you need high quality output. Lexmark is the company that perfected color printing first, many years ago, so they DO know what they're doing.
All that aside, you can't go wrong with HP.

Well, I placed my order.
Frankly though, I did it solely for the printer; I have absolutely zero interest in the e-stamp postage thing. So, if anyone would like that item, feel free to make me an offer. I'd probably be willing to sell it to you dirt cheap.

I'd recommend you keep the postage, there's no time limit on it and no monthly fee, so you can use it at your leisure. Plus, you'd be amazed how amusing it is to have free postage money, I've mailed so much crap to people with my stamps.com postage it's amazing. Send your friends empty boxes overnight, let them wonder.

I received the printer, HP 930C, and the software today. It seems that the software is an open-box item 'cause it's open! Well.... it doesn't matter and I already applied for the free 50 dollars postage. It's a sweet deal. =)
