Ken, if you pre-order a BMW the way you want it, then it is in the same price range. There is no extras for ordering. However, 85% of the BMW's imported for dealers have options up the wazoo to make them 5k+ base MSRP. The 323i with a decent package w/o ordering starts at 32.7k. The 328 however mostly start at 35-39+. BMW IS NOT the only manu that does this. Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, and many others do this also. Why does Jap reliability only apply to Honda Toyota and Nissan? All of which 75% or more of their cars in the US are made in the USA.
I agree with the autobytel stuff, just a bunch of non-follow up referrals.

why didn't anyone mention the
Mercedes C230 Kompressor?...granted performance and handling is below par of that of BMW...but the funniest thing...
I passed a '99 BMW 328i...and the driver was looking at me as I drove by!! I still think the Benz is the way to go!! I got my 1999 model for $35,000 out the door...the service, quality, reliability, and styling is great! Mercedes' classic styling will never fade!!

what does BMW stand for???what is the msrp for the bmw 328i???i think the best deal is the BMX available @ your local wal-mart,, u dont need to buy gas and it saves the environment..hehehehe btw how much does the bmw M3 kost???

This BMW background is extremely annoying.
Anyway, BMW's always cost 5k+base msrp because you simply CAN'T get a bmw in leatherette, that defeats the whole point. And other than Audi and Mercedes (maybe its a German thing), not a single other competitor does the option game.
Whether you disagree whether these companies are in the same league as BMW or not, they don't do the options trick: Saab, Volvo, Acura, Lexus, Infiniti - I don't know about Jaguar. I think I've exhausted them all. All these other manufacturers have leather standard - I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. For many, premium sound is also standard.
And Japanese reliability only applies to Toyota, Honda and Nissan because they're the ones who are car manufacturers. The other japanese companies (I believe) made something else before making cars, part of that "we have to make everything" Japanese business philosophy. And for some reason, the quality followed the companies after they moved operations into america, must simply be good management.
Anyway, JD Powers backs me up on only Honda, Toyota and Nissan having Japanese quality.
Back on th BMW option b.s., I went in to get a new 323 convertible, and guess what, power top is an option. Geez, they may as well be a parts dealer and sell you the cars bit by bit. My problem with any options at all, is that for every option that lowers the available price, it increases the price of the fully loaded car. If BMW made every car fully loaded, the entire cost of the car would be less, much less when you figure that a 6 disc cd changer, as a dealer installed option, can be as high as one grand - ouch!.

Actually the True meaning of BMW in German is: Bayerische Motoren Werke

In Silicon Valley, every bmw, mercedes, porsche, jaguar, range rover, and ferrari has at least a 6 months waiting list, some up to 3 YEARS!!!. There are plenty of Audi and Lexus's gathering dust in the lots. Tell you something? Doesn't it??
-
Plebe
Lexus(Toyota!) sucks, might as well buy a toyota...
Audi and BMW are also weak...
Buy something American with more ballz...
