Confused about nvidia product lineup. Some help?

They have so many freaking chipsets out and I'm trying to figure out which one I should buy if I only have $100. Is there some website with like a chart that compares each model? I just want to easily tell if the geforce4 MX 420 is better than the geforce2 ultra or something. Little help? Thanks

I'm trying to keep the system under $430 or so. Here's what I'm thinking.

    Evercase E4252WEF5 w/300w ps $42
    ECS K7S5A $52
    Seagate 40gb 7200rpm $77
    floppy $7
    52x cdrom $30
    1.33ghz t-bird $99

all that at newegg after shipping and tax is almost $350.

GF4 MX is faster than a GF2 but slower than Gf3. remember than Gf4MX is better than anything with GF2 in the name.
    WindowsXp Pro
    Albatron PX845PEV Pro @ 158Mhz FSB
    Intel P4 2.26 @ 2.68Ghz
    w/Stock Intel HSF
    Enermax 431Watt PSU
    ATI Radeon 9700Pro @ 345/337(674DDR)
    512MB Corsair XMS3200 DDR @ 421Mhz
    40GB IBM Deskstar 60GXP 7200RPM ATA/100
    60GB Maxtor 7200RPM ATA/100
    Pioneer 16x DVD-Rom
    Teac W540E CDRW (40x/12x/48x)
Hercules Game Theater XP 6.1 soundcard

    ECS P4S5A (SiS645) $73
    Intel P4 1.6A $137
    FDD Panasonic $8
    Cyberdrive 56X CD $25
    MAXTOP Case 350W $39
    Seagate 40gb 7200 $77
    MSI GF3 Ti200 64MB $142

    Total $501

    ECS K7S6A (SiS745) $65
    AMD Athlon 1.33GHz $87
    FDD Panasonic $8
    Cyberdrive 56X CD $25
    MAXTOP Case 350W $39
    Seagate 40gb 7200 $77
    MSI GF3 Ti200 64MB $142

    Total $443

Hmmm... You are MUCH better off going with the P4 system. The 1.6A will overclock to 2.1GHz and make the 1.33ghz TBird cry. But it's your call

Too bad you are not living in SoCal or else you could get some good deal on CPU/MB combo @ Fry's! I got my Shuttle AK31A (KT266A) and XP 1700+ for $159. Right now Fry's offers an ECS K7S5A (SiS735 <-- suz) MB and AXP 1700+ CPU for $149. New deal should come out on Friday! If you could get my deal (Shuttle and AXP), then it is:

    AXP 1700+ and ECS K7S5A $149
    Thermaltake ORB 3 HSF $20
    256MB PC2100 memory $60
    Evercase E4252WEF5 w/300w ps $42
    Seagate 40gb 7200rpm $77
    floppy $7
    52x cdrom $30

Total $385 + tax and shipping (if applicable)

I wouldn't get the K7S5A though 'cauze it suz major a$$... Wait for Fry's deal and get the XP and EP-8KHA+ combo (one of the best overclocking KT266A board)! Last time I saw the AXP 1700+ and EP-8KHA+ @ Fry's for $179! You only pay $30 extra for a much better combo! I don't know if you have Fry's up north but I think you would 'cauze its HQ is up there!

The Nvidia site has performance specs for their cards, but they unfortunately don't have a handy comparison chart.

The general rule of thumb for nvidia is that the MX lines are for 2D or entry level 3D, while the TI lines are for 3D/gaming.

Speed goes roughly like this (slowest to fastest):

    4mx 420
    4mx 440
    4mx 460 & 3ti 200 - about the same
    GeForce 3
    3ti 500
    4ti 4400
    4ti 4600

Today, your best value would be the 3ti 200. It's a little out of your price range (about $150), but if you're willling to wait a month or so the prices should drop.

The GeForce 3 is a faster and more feature rich videocard than the GeForce 2 Ultra.

I didn't look too closely at the GF2 line - the specs come close to the GF3 line for the GF2 Ultra, but for the marginal cost difference I would go for the newer technology of the GF3.

I wasn't able to get to fry's today because my dad didn't want to drive, but they had that one-day sale dealy. Don't you love to think about stuff that never was?

    k7s5a w/ duron 950 $69
    k7s5a w/ 1900+ $199

I'm so confused right now though. Cuz one of my friend's said that i should go with a MSI nforce mobo with a 1700+ instead of wizard's 1.6a suggestion. He said something about p4s sucking or something. Wah...this building my own pc thing isn't as easy as I thought it'd be. Maybe I should just go to circuit city and buy a vaio.

The release of the P4 northwoods with a 512K L2 cache (a much smaller core and a larger on-chip cache), and the pricematch of the RDRAM with DDR has made the P4s looking pretty good compared to the Athlon XPs (Though theyre still good with DDR, P4s go much better with RDRAM). Its also when you overclock a northwood that gives the P4 a good value for its money - its stable, and there are NO heat problems as opposed to the athlons.
Either way, you wont go wrong, whether you go for an athlon XP ot a P4. Its just a matter of preference now.
The fool said it best. The point is right now both are very excellent options and either choice will provide you with awesome performance for a good price. Oh yeah one more thing in the P4's favor, it is a dope tiny little CPU. The thing is soo small. If you get a P4 make sure you go buy a AVC HSF. These things are pimp and will keep your CPU cool under the most stressful situations. Oh yeah the webby for that HSF is right here: http://www.avc.com.tw/CPU%20Cooler/117140.asp
