    Health & Beauty Product Reviews

A pet peeve of mine is when I buy new toiletry products, and they don't live up to their advertised expectations. (Yes, I'm soooo peeved that I had to start a thread.)

Share your best and worst experiences, to spread the word about great products, and to warn others away from the bad ones!

    :
MAC Hyper Real Foundation - Easily the best foundation I've ever used. It's silicone-based so it's "skin-like," and it's got that pearl/iridescent sheen that's so popular these days. Might not be ideal for very oily skin.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion - Contains AHA's, great for natural exfoliation, to expose new skin cells. I've actually noticed an improvement in my skin since I started using this. Also comes in sensitive skin formulation (yay!).

Daily Facial Cloths - I can't live without these, and I seriously CAN'T remember how I removed make-up before these came along! Just about every company has a version of these, and guess what? They're mostly the SAME product ... same scent, same cloth texture, etc.! Just get the cheapest one, but be sure NOT to get Neutrogena (see next entry)!

    :
Neutrogena Facial Cloths - I bought these on a whim, but I've always trusted the brand so I figured nothing could go wrong. These were the absolute worst -- I've seen more lather on rabid mice. Instead of going "with" the crowd and using the same cloths, they made theirs out of a fabric that's so slippery I kept dropping it while I was washing.

This is a great idea. I don't use many, though.

But to all of you, would you like to see something like this on GGD?

I think that would be good. Cuz sometimes when I want to buy something and I wanna know if it's worth it and it's like a girly thing like those facial cloths juju was talking about ( i LOVE those thing too ) I can't exactly ask Dopey or Nija or someone about them and my girl friends aren't exactly tooo girly and would use something like that, they'd just use like soap and water...

but back to your question Jenny, yeah I think it would be a good idea

I like the idea. It's nice to get the opinions of real women with no investment in a particular beauty product. I've never used those facial cloths, I may have to go buy some.

    Shampoo & Conditioner

I use the Back to Basics line for shampoo & conditioner. It seems to work really well. My hair feels very soft and has volume.

Clean & Clear Overnight Acne Patches - These are great if you're a supermodel and have the occasional bump that you want to slowly dry out. If you're normal, though, the patch's adhesive will rip the skin right off the pimple. There's only 2% salicylic acid in the formulation, and most anti-acne creams come with 5-10% these days. For faster results - and less pain - I vote for using zit cream and band-aid's.

I use Johnson's Baby Shampoo ($3 at the grocery store) instead of the outrageously priced shampoos I used to get at the salon. I read somewhere that it was the most gentle shampoo out there and is great for color-treated hair.

I don't think they make baby conditioner, but I like Back to Basics mint conditioner. If only I could find it again!

I always use herbal essence - the dandruff shampoo and conditioner.
I like the conditioning over the normal dandruff shampoos.

facial cleanser - I've used noxema since high school, and it's always worked for me. and people say it's somewhat harsh, but I LOVE that harshness - it feels like it's actually cleaning your face. I actually leave it on my face and let it dry......(perhaps I'm a masochist)

and i really love those biore strips for my nose when I gotz blackheads....
it's amazing how it seriously just sucks em off of your nose.

Since I have extremely sensitive skin i have to use the Estee Lauder Vertite line ...as for the face wash cloths I used the Olay and the Dove ones and it seemed ok with my skin- but my skin turns red- other wise it is a great idea...

If it turns red, that usually means it is too harsh for you skin. I used to use Oxy when I had zits but it was too harsh for my skin -- e.g. turned it red wherever I applied it.

My sister uses preperation h on bumps (acne w/o head) it does seem to shrink it.
Am I alone here? Is that it?

I have combination skin that's more toward the sensitive side. I've tried a plenitude of products so I thought I'd post the good (& bargain price) ones.

    - clean & clear oil sheets
    - oil of olay facial wipes (the ones where u add water). this one seems the most non-scented. biore and ponds wipes have scents to them
    - clean & clear clarifying toner
    - biore nose strips
    - beneFit buh bye! (blemish treatment)
    - herbal essence shampoo .. OH and the best conditioner:: feria from loreal but it only comes w/ the dyes! ...sigh..

    >>stuff i don't like so much
    - clean & clear astringent (just use witch hazel!)
    - clean & clear invisible blemish treatment (it's only mediocre, no miracles)

Yeah. There are a lot of Johnson & Johnson products listed but I think these products are good for the price. Has anyone tried their mask that changes to from green to white when it's finished or their facial cleansing cloths?

Completely agree about Noxzema, you can actually see the dirt on the cleaning pads after you're done. I've been using them for about 4 years now.

But from my experience I really don't like those Biore strips, they never seem to make a difference and it's a pain to take them off.
