places in CA

I was going to move to somewhere in CA and I was wondering where I should move to if I wanted to find somewhat affordable living and a good look at the computer scene. Basically want an area in CA with affordable living and close to big computer businesses.

Housing isn't cheap unless you wanna live in a ghetto.
Pay isn't as good as it used to be.
Sales Tax is around 8% more or less.

The only thing you can count on is more sunshine than rain.

As for computer company areas, I would say Bay Area has the most computer related companies. LA is more engineering, business and entertainment. SD is telecom and biotech.

san diego isnt bad and there is qualcomm here....you should live north of san diego, in a suburb. escondido is nice and cheap. poway and rancho bernardo are "rich white boy" neighborhoods, but they are nice places.

The housing and cost of living in Sacramento is somewhat low, but there isn't much there. Intel is there? I thought they were in Santa Clara or something. Anyways, what do you consider affordable? If you plan on working for those high-tech computer companies, I'd try and land a job first, then decide where to move. Silicon Valley is defintely the high-tech place, but very expensive, as is anywhere else in the Bay Area (especially if you're comparing to other parts of the country)

In the Bay Area, rent is about 1300-1800 for a two bedroom one bath.
Pay isn't as good as it used to be.

If you have an SUV don't move to San Diego. We've already hit our quota and then some. If you don't have one then I would recommend working in Diego and living in Northern SD, taking the coaster to commute. Of course that's an ideal situation but I would defintely consider the commute before you move.

And watch out for that Car Insurace sneaking up on you. Gas is around $1.60 on average. So, like Esdee says, keep in mind the commute.

Poway and Rancho Bernardo are a "rich white boy" area?!? Whatcha talking about Willis? I wouldnt call this a rich white boy area. This area seems to have more middle class then upper class, much less affulent then where I used to live.

you should probably try to land a job first and then let that determine where you go. there are a lot of jobs in a lot of different industries in CA, you just gotta find the right one. while a lot of computer industry jobs are in Silicon Valley, there are lots of computer jobs in LA and SD too. You just gotta find the place for you i guess. I grew up in Silicon Valley and my dad is still making GOOD money working in computers, but it's getting harder and harder to get in these days since the number of computer jobs is dwindling. i'd say stay out of the bay area if you can.

There are a few tech companies out in Calabasas on Agoura Road, like THQ, but housing is not really all that affordable and it's a small town that has become congested with that new Albertson's center off of Las Virgenes.
