that would be sweet. i think my current screen is around 14", so a couple extra inches would be way nice

i will never buy a sony laptop, that's for sure. a 16" screen sounds nice, but after looking at their little comparison in the upper right hand corner it makes me think that the extra inch is pointless.

I'd say that at 7lbs this is only for a specific type of person. I'll take my thinkpad at <5lbs anyday

Sony tends to load up their PCs with an incredible amount of crap software. And they are usually very fragile in comparison.

    1. Yes, it seems so.
    2. Looks nice. It is 15.2"
    3. That's standard now adays, even starting on pcs now.
    4. Ya, that is pretty sweet
    5. That means limited capabilites
    6. I would like to see that case on a PC notebook
    7. There is one of the problems with macs. They market what the things look like more than what they can do.

how so? i was just saying that if you're not substantially....undersized, then you shouldn't have to worry. what could possibly be wrong with that? and if a female type had the nerve to complain, then maybe she's...not drawn to scale

That's excellently funny. Well I've always been told I am perfect, but then again what girl would say the truth? hehehehe

    <edit ok let's get back on topic>

16" monitor sounds great. I wonder when they'll make a folding monitor, so like you can have a laptop with a nice 20" monitor that is the same dimensions as a 15" monitor Laptop

man, i used to totally agree with that statement. i lectured more than one person about the high cost/low performance that one gets with a laptop (relative to a desktop), the cramped keyboards, crappy screens, and the difficulty of upgrading.
i have completely changed my tune. part of this is because of upgrades in laptop technology. now, you can get a laptop with a beautiful, clear screen. the keyboards have been greatly improved. they are much lighter -- i'm sure most of you remember the old, clunky laptops that must have weighed 15 pounds.
also, computer technology has advanced so much that now you can get a laptop that will do everything that you will ever want to do (if you're an average user like myself, who isn't into heavy gaming, overclocking, etc. i realize that doesn't apply to most of you here). at one time, laptop technology was lagging far enough behind desktop technology that in some cases you would have to choose between getting a desktop that could efficiently run programs that you needed or getting a laptop that couldn't. that's not the case anymore, although you will still pay 2x-3x the price for comparable technology in a laptop than in a desktop.
but the reason i really love laptops is that they are SO convenient. once you get used to having a laptop to carry around whereever you want, that you can take on planes, that you can plug into a payphone in the middle of an airport and get online, that you can close up and stick under your end table, that you can use during a conference call on the south rim of the grand canyon, that you can hold on your lap to surf the web while watching tv.....well, you get kind of attached to it and really decide that you don't want to do without it.

he is right, if you are normally sized then relax, but if you are under 8 inches then yea something is definatelly off with you

Word. When I started my current job 18 months ago, my boss gave me a $2000 budget to get a new computer. I could have picked anything I wanted, so I choose a desktop 1GHz. Boy, am I regretting that now. I do way more travelling than I thought I would and every time I have to pack up this behemoth and haul it along.

I'm scheduled to get a new computer this summer. It's gonna be a Dell Latitude notebook (with DVD!)

I love my Compaq Prosignia 170. I bought it from Apex. It's about 5 pounds, 15" screen, etc. I love it. The only part I hate is having to take out the cdrom to use the floppy drive. Isn't a huge deal because I rarely use the floppy drive, but it's great.

the thing i've found is that because i always have my computer with me, i don't NEED to use the floppy drive, which is wonderful
