Crap, there are so many! I really don't know what to choose from. You had Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, The Police, Billy Idol and then all these 80's songs from movies. Those are all definitive 80's artists and stuff but then in the early 80's you had the spilled over punk music and in the late 80's you started getting guns n roses. I don't know, I can't pick.

Name a bunch. I liked OMD, New Order, Depeche Mode, U2, Duran Duran, The Cure, Wham, Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Belinda Carlisle... Geez. 80's music just rocks.

The Cure, haha how could I forget. You had the Misfits in the early 80's before Danzig left. How come you forget a song like Survivor - Eye of the Tiger, haha. 80's music is just craptastically irresistable.

We were listening to a bunch of 80s songs in my friend's office today. It was amazing how some songs were made using a Casio mini-keyboard and a drum machine.

"68 Guns" by The Alarm. That album was so cool.
    "Red Barchetta" by Rush.
"Radio Free Europe" by REM (although for some reason, I never really liked anything from them after that.)

Good lord we have a lot of billy Idol fans here.

Then ya'll want to get the vh1 storytellers CD that just came out - 14 songs, all live, with a nice version of Kiss me deadly. Note, it's Billy, so it gets a little blue.

They've also just released a generation x greatest hits cd too.

All the ones that UT mentioned plus Billy Joel and many Elton John's and Culture Club hits. Had George Michael split from the Wham by the Nineties? If so, then George, too.

i must say that i'm not a great fan of 80s music.

sure, there was a lot of good punk, esp. in the early 80s (ramones, misfits, black flag, rollins, husker du, etc), and there was a lot of really cool early alternative music (r.e.m., U2, violent fems, etc), but as far as the stuff that everyone thinks of when they say "80s music", i really don't like at all.

i think it's probably because i wasn't raised with it (since my parents were rather conservative, i had never heard of michael jackson or billy idol until sometime in the early 90s) and by that time i was getting into rap and then alternative rock. so i don't have the association in my mind with that 80s music being the first "cool music" that i had ever heard.

and from a musical standpoint, i just really don't find the heavy synth dance pop stuff particularly enjoyable listening material. so i've not gotten "into it" even after i've gotten older and explored music a lot more.

    go ahead....start the flames

    PSB - Heart (80's or 70's... I'm not sure)

BOC - Don't fear the reaper

Richard Marx - Right here waiting

    John Waite - Missing you

Bon Jovi - You give love a bad name

    OMD - If you leave

New order or Frente (both are good) - Bizzare love triangle

Monaco - What do you want from me

Whitesnake - Is this love and Here I am again on my own

Ramones - Everything they've ever hummed.

and many many more, but I'm tired of typing.
