Cool Best way to sell textbooks

I heard that selling a textbook through half.com or amazon is a good idea. Is this true? I know for a fact that the college bookstore WILL rip you off when they try to buy your books back.

Is half better than amazon or the other way around? Has anyone have any experience selling books from one of these sites?

    thanks,
    don

i have no experience selling textbooks back.. but while you're at it, you might as well consider Barnes & Nobles too. they buy and sell textbooks.. would be great if you could just drop it off at a store, instead of shipping it to them..

Amazon is probably the best to sell to.

    definitely amazon

they kill you with their 15% commission and 99 cent listing fee, but u can keep it up there forever, and I've personally gotten rid of about 25 books in the last 6 weeks. I sold one for 80 bucks, after buying it for 100 and using it for a semester. Not bad at all

the best place to sell back your books is the place that gives you the most money for them..... duh!! this has happened to me in the past, the bookstore actually gave me more back for the book than i paid for it originally.

How about selling directly to someone who needs it? Try posting a list in the dorms on campus.

no, that's the whole point. you buy a book for $20 (particularly a paperback novel for a lit class, or some completely boring political theory book for some poly sci class). at the end of the semester, you take it back to the bookstore. they look at it and say "hmmm....we could give you $1.50 for this." it sucks....because you can get no return on your investment. and so you end up like me, with boxes of books from college that you are going to read (some which you never read in the first place) because you figured that if the bookstore would only give you $1.50, you might as well keep it for yourself.

Half.com would be my recommendation ... you can list it forever, and it won't cost you a penny, until it sells.

Another thing you can try is to keep track of the books and sell them back to the bookstores a year later -- prices will be MUCH better. Some courses are only offered once a year during a certain qtr/sem, which is why they'll give you $1.50 for a $100 textbook at the end of the term ... they don't need it for another year. I know that college students are usually strapped for cash, so this might not be the best solution.

    G'luck!

Forget selling your books. Just build a bonfire. It'll cost you a little money now, but it'll save you thousands in therapy later.
