at 11:30 today I'm going to get a surgery. The surgeon is going to take all 4 of my wisdom teeth out, I know it's nothing major but I'm really nervous. Aaaargh make it stop. Okay, I hope everything will be fine, I just want to get it over with.

Woo....
DEFINITELY SOUNDS PAINFUL....
I have to get around to getting my wis teeth taken out....A frightning thought.....
OUCH...
and I'm going to magic mountain on wednesday, hopefully i'll be alright.
Have fun.
Are you going to have general anesthesia? If so, you'll miss out on all the fun and you won't get to hear it when the surgeon says "Oops!"
I had mine out under local. They were impacted and turned sideways. I got to hear all the interesting "Cracks" and such as he drilled in and split them into pieces so he could extract them piece by piece.
Oh, but don't read any of this if it makes you nervous.

GL Sho. and umm, just be glad it's not a military guy doing it. Friend of mine had it done a couple weeks ago, woke up during it, finished it awake, then went home (no pain meds), 4 hrs later, he is still spitting blood (enough to fill a cereal bowl in 30 min) so, he called the ER on base. They tell him to come in. Without a local, they repaired the blood vessel that the first guy nipped while doing the proceedure.
Went back home still no pain meds. Couldn't eat for a couple weeks and this is a guy who likes meat.
They knocked me out. Had all 4 taken out in June. Take someone with you to drive you butt home!! My gf said I was awake when I left the place and paid for it using my Credit Card. All I remember was waking up in my bed. I don't remember leaving the place, going to the store to pick up the medicine, bleeding all over or even signing on the dotted line for the work![]()
I'm glad I didn't drive b/c I wouldn't remember how I got there. I hope your insurance was better than mine...I didn't get reimbursed until a month ago. Sigh
It's hard to say. If your extractions are more-or-less simple, you'll probably be ok. But if not, you probably won't feel up to riding any of the G-forcing gut-wrenching type of rides - in that case, the merry-go-round might become attractive.Originally posted by sho.gun

I got mine done in high school. I was asleep during the entire thing, went home with pain medication (I was SOOOO loopy from the meds on the drive home - my mom drove me - and so swollen and packed with gauze that I looked like a chipmunk, that when we pulled up to the toll booth on the interstate, I looked out my window to the lady in the car next to me and she freaked out. I looked like I had been in a horrible fight. I had a little dried blood on the corners of my mouth, I was a little bruised, etc. It was hysterical.).
I didn't have any problems.You'll be fine.

Have fun eating apple sauce for the rest of the week.
What would you liked to have done before you died?
Good luck Sho....I hope it goes perfectly and you don't have any pain.

aarg! 1 hour 15 minutes, gotta get ready now. When I went to the consultation the surgeon went in detail on how he will take the teeth out. "I'm going to cut your gum along this line" as he pointed to his jaw model thing, "and I'll drill some holes and split your teeth here..." I was just sitting there shaking...
okay guys i'm out of here, cya. wish me luck.
good luck captain...it's not as bad as you think..plus the vicodin is goood. i had mine out a few years ago...out of commission for a day or two...then slowly back to normal. the worst part is the gauze in your mouth
oh, and they put me completely out...mine were pretty bad, all 4 impacted.
i had all 4 of mine out with only local anestesthia (how the hell do you spell that, anyway???). it was no problem. it was actually pretty cool to hear the dentist cracking the teeth out but not feel any pain. i was fine the next day, except for a slightly sore jaw. 2 days later i was good to go. i personally think people exagerate the whole getting their wisdom teeth out experience. most people i know are fine 2 days later, especially if they don't get knocked out completely. good luck sho!
i had mine done back before i could drink...er...in high school. i was aight in a couple days. the first day i shlept through. the 2nd day i was doin stuff with puffy cheeks. i think the 3rd i was good to go. if they put you under, you'll be good.
good luck.
say "hi" to lumbergh for me

mine had actually grown out, but I couldn't brush them without choking, so the eventually started to fall apart. I was under a local, and did 2 at a time. It was also when I discovered I had a bleeding disorder, since I bleed out for about 3 days.
Wasn't fun, but it was kind of cool hearing those teeth crack in my head.

<gorey extraction story>
I had mine taken out under local, and when they yanked out the top two in under five minutes, I thought I'd be going home early! The bottom teeth took another two hours. The anesthetic wore off so they had to give me a few more shots to numb the gums. You haven't lived till you've received a shot in the gums!

That was a Friday afternoon, I was back in school on Monday. My jaw was sore for a while, and Vicodin didn't do jack for me ... I was wide-awake all weekend!
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
Ooooh, forgot my other favorite story:
The night after I got my teeth taken out (they had to cut all 4 out. none had erupted, cause they were growing in sideways and crowding my teeth) I was hungry, but couldn't eat much. My mom made me jello. I ate it and the promptly threw up, due to the pain medication without food beforehand or something. I don't remember. Anyway, my sister ran into my mom's room, screaming I was throwing up blood. My mom ran out and started freaking out, until she realized it was the red jello. hahahahahah It was awful!
The next day, I left for church camp for a week, so I recovered there.![]()

quick question:
my upper left and right molars are about half way out (i.e. they already came out, but they're only about half as far out as my other teeth).
one thing that im worried about is that they're sorta sticking outwards instead of straight down. They dont hurt, and dont press on any parts of my mouth/gums. If they DONT come down any further, and dont start hurting, should i just leave them alone? or should i go ahead and get them removed?
Depends. How well can you brush them? Are they crowding your other teeth at all? Do they bother you at all? Will your insurance cover it?Originally posted by Nanotech9

Now, if you will excuse me, I am going to take my computer and pay someone to figure out why it isn't working right....

Yeah, it took about a week before I was able to eat solids after mine were yanked. But that may have had something to do with the dental school doing it instead of a board certified surgeon.
Ok, maybe I'm the exception here or my Dentist really knew what he was doing...
When I got my wisdom teeth removed when I was 18, my dentist spent more time giving me anesthetic shots than actually removing my teeth. The whole procedure took about 30-35 minutes and I went home with that wonderful rubber-face feeling. I had to go back a few days later to have the stitches removed from the excavation sites. My Dad was really shocked - I was up and around and washing/waxing our cars that afternoon. I only took some tylenol every once in a while for what little pain I had and that was it.
Maybe I'm the 1% of people who don't have a problem, but for me it was no big deal.![]()
I think over again
My small adventures, my fears.
The small ones that seemed so big,
For all the vital things I had to get and to reach.
And yet there is only one great thing, the only thing:
To live to see the great day that dawns,
And the light that fills the world.
