Prison chiefs offer released convict TV if he comes back
Swedish prison chiefs have promised to give a mistakenly released convict a TV in his cell if he comes back.
The 22-year-old petty thief was released by mistake from Norrkoping prison after a warden misread a fax.
He should have been transferred to a less crowded prison - not released. He's serving a two-month sentence.
Prison spokesman Bjorn Mansson told the Aftonbladet newspaper: "The warden misinterpreted the fax and thought he'd been instructed to set the man free."
He blamed overcrowding and high workloads for the mistake.
After he'd been released the prisoner phoned the jail to ask if he should have been set free.
"We told him there'd been a mistake and he needed to come back, but he refused so we offered him a cell with a television to try tempt him back," Mr Mansson said.
He turned down their offer.
The warden responsible for freeing the prisoner doesn't face any disciplinary action, the paper says.
