    a question about outlook...

i just got a new laptop this week, but i have a few extremely important emails in outlook from my old laptop. i was wondering if there is a way for me to transfer all of my emails in outlook to my new laptop, which i will have a completely new outlook installed in it w/o any information whatsoever. i remember a friend telling me a while back that all i need to do is copy certain files over and place them into the same directory, but i forgot which ones/where they're located. oh, and i'm using win xp and office xp, if that makes any difference.

if you know, please let me know exactly which files, directories, and even if there's a particular order of doing things (like copying the files over before opening the new outlook or whatever) sorry about being so meticulous, but it's absolutely vital that everything is kept perfectly because there's a lot of important information that i need. oh, and thanks in advance

    short answer,...

copy the pst files from your current outlook onto the new laptop.

when you import in the pst file into your new outlook, it should retain all of your file structure and attachments.

    long answer,...

uhh, it might matter version, os version, etc. but i doubt it,...

The .pst file may be difficult to find, so just go do this:

Outlook --> File --> Import/Export --> Export to a File --> Personal Folder File (.pst) --> click on Personal Folders --> Check "Include Subfolders" --> Choose where to save the file

Then copy that file to your laptop and import the .pst file.

Leon's answer is, of course, perfect. However, if you do what he says you will also get your contacts, notes, deleted items etc. moved over, which you probably want anyway.

For Outlook Express, can you copy ALL of the Inbox Emails at once to a folder, instead of one-by-one?

why not just forward them to yourself and then download them onto the new comp? that's my "lazy man's way" to do it...

once again, another brilliant but simple procedure from leon. thanks

brewmaster: i want to keep all my emails so that would mean hundreds of emails to fwd and download...gosh that would be a pain.
